philpot 4,998
Looking forward to next month when I start the pike fest. I am assuming the water in question is Rother Vally Country Park and if so I had no idea there were big pike in there. Not sure which lake they are supposed to be in but if the sailing lake, we were never allowed to fish there but things may have changed of course. I would agree that cygnets are very well protected by the parent birds although I have actually seen a very big pike take an adult mallard right in front of me, my god it made me jump to say the least. I used to make a lot of pike flies but as the chinese started to make them and sell them on ebay at 3 for a fiver, my flies were a fiver each made with the best quality materials from the states so I packed it in but after I sold all my gear, I kept some with weighted heads to use on the lure rods and they just keep on working so roll on October and a few frosts. Phil China again lol a went to a fly fishing shop with my pal to buy a rod few years back now. When he found out that hardy were involved with China making the rods he just said your okay. Price should be half that now their involved. It's shocking that all the top quilty makers that we had in the UK have gone over seas to wack big numbers out on production lines cheaper. The quilty isn't there no more Phil Edited September 7, 2023 by Bangersanmash 1 Quote Link to post

Phil Its Thrybergh country park mate with the big reservoir some locals had spotted large pike in the shallows and were calling for the pike to be removed as they were claiming that they were killing the swan cygnets. I believe that you can lure fish this res with so many permits permitted when years ago it was fly fishing only. 1 Quote Link to post
jok 3,260
I’m no fisherman. I’m guessing that Paulus an Iknow where the biggest pike are and it’s not far from where we both live. This subject has been brought up on a few occasions. Thing is, you can dive and have a head on with a behemoth as I have done on many an occasion. Also the tench are quite formidable. Fishing is taboo but I seem to remember a fishing pundit being allowed to have a go. Jok. Quote Link to post

My mate used to scuba dive at a big quarry out Leicestershire and said their were some monsters in it but fishing was not allowed. 1 Quote Link to post
