Walking them at night, socialising them with certain people but avoiding others etc etc.. my point is the list of incidents with these types of dogs is on the up, its not the dogs fault its the twat on the end of then lead.. unfortunately it brings unwanted attention onto the breed and owners like yourself may eventually suffer... I like bull breeds been around a few, but never owned a pure myself, mates who have had them for working are sound and the dogs impressive....its not them that are the problem
waltjnr 6,682
Scary thing is ,not only can these twats have a dog ,they have kids ,and so the situation gets worse ,they haven't a clue what the dogs original purpose was ,or care ,just a dick extention ,makes up for what they lack in ,which in most cases a yorkie would,
Aussie Whip 4,093
I agree a lot who own these dogs are doing it to boost their ego mostly but it's got to do also with how violent society is getting. People are genuinely scared they are going to be mugged, stabbed or whatever and it's illegal to carry a weapon to defend themselves but most of these breeds should only be in the hands of enthusiasts with a lot of experience. Dogs do stop more violent acts than they cause, by far, so disarming people of their guardian dogs isn't going to stop deaths and injuries, it will create more. It's a difficult situation and a sad world now.
EDDIE B 3,162
Just watched the videos. Plod done what they had to do. Over 300 feckin clowns signing that petition, is the only travesty here.

Can a collie , or a cocker spaniel do that? American stats show the apbt to be involved in more attacks and fatalities than any other breed by far. Compulsory, breed specific insurance would deter a lot of idiots from owning aggressive dogs. Just been reading that Eskimos often de_ fang their sled dogs to stop them killing each other and children. Don't think that would go down well as solution here though. Can’t see people who own dogs like that being too fussy about insurance when they are banned in the first place .

You can find apbt litters openly advertised. If we had compulsory insurance, cops could take these dogs if owners could not produce an insurance policy. No insurance,no dog.

What exactly are they supposed to do..especially as those cops had received info saying the dog had attacked someone earlier... If the dog that was released had ran past those cops ...and attacked another member of the public...everybody would be up in arms that they hadn't shot it when they had chance 9

Said this before as well and I agree . the caveat for myself is that in the right hands , a well conditioned, attuned and directed apbt is a sight to behold , the production of progeny from such a beast is what gives us the fantastic bull type runners . however when delivered in the wrong hands and raised by fools , there’s not a worse canine. A tragedy that the very thing that defines the breed is what compounds it’s ownership as an idiot magnet 4

gnasher16 30,062
I remember years ago watching some sort of documentary on the telly about pit bulls and what a danger they were all the time knowing that they was the only dog for me at the time....there was an RSPCA bod called Jan Eachus a yank who i later had the misfortune of coming into contact with but he said something on that program that always stuck with me he said something like " as wonderful a breed as the APBT is....its just not a breed for densely populated areas ".....i totally agree, all the off shoots of the breed crosses and XL Bullies whatever they call them are just not the types of dogs that should be kept around busy cities in my opinion, they serve no purpose whatsoever and theres simply too much pressure on such a highly strung dog.......that said i still think the situation in question here was an almighty plod f**k up that could have easily been avoided.
