Greyman 28,286
Sat out on the grass last night misses kids and neighbours all loving it, interestingly we were able to do it on a couple of phones at the same time to check for accuracy and they were all in sync, had blue and long tail tits chiff chaff ,blackcap, goldfinch , goldcrest, mistle and song thrush, blackbird, robin, wren rock dove and pigeon think I can now identify 1or 2 more birds by sound than before using the app so think it’s quite educational if you stick with it hoping the grandson will be fluent when he’s older in bird song already have him counting the number of toes on footprints he finds and getting badger hair off the fence around the marina, were they come in, 3

Bush Rummager 4,543
Yes.. cracking app this is. I've just had it recording for 2 minutes whilst I put the bbq away apparently it's picked a Bitten up. I'm not convinced about that to be honest.. very very unlikely here unless one flew over calling or something. The Bitten also has a red dot at side of it on the list if anyone knows what this means??

These icons tell you if a species is rare (red dot) or uncommon (orange semi-circle) for the bird to be seen at the location and on the date that you selected. The same species that is common in summer might be rare in winter. 1

Do you have areas of vast Reed beds any were near you, I used to have a fishing lake in Somerset in the 90s and had bitterns every year though they were seldom seen and never showed up on any of the bird spotting sites back then they were a real rarity used to hear them occasionally making the booming noise on an evening but if they are stood in the reeds they are pretty invisible

Funnily enough one of those places is where I saw my first and only Bitten early on morning walking the dogs.. must be over 20 years ago! Funnily enough we did have walk around a decent sized lake with Reeds in places yesterday morning and I uses the app briefly going around there so I'm just wondering if that's where the recording came from and the app has had bit and just logged it wrong. Interesting though, I've got all the family on it!! Lol.. I tried playing a Golden Eagle call through the tablet yesterday hoping the app would log it so I wind a few people up.. but the app was having none of it!!

Welsh_red 4,633
I'm glad everybody else is finding it as interesting as I am . I still think it's crazy that it's free . If someone showed me this app and said it was 10 quid I would have happily paid for it . My dad couldn't get over how good it was . I think if anything were to convince him to have a mobile phone it would be this . Would be a nice feature to be able to choose a radius around you and to have a list of all birds that have been logged over the last week in that area . Be nice to see what other people are finding
