Waz 4,252
Ive been doing a lot of swimming the last 6 months, after neck/spine surgery & frozen shoulder then followed by paralysed vocal chords!!, im not allowed to do much else. TBH I underestimated how good it would be for me. Doing a mile about 4 times a week & then sauna/cold showers, started using the steam room after the sauna being banged out which I think had something to do with getting my voice back after about 6 months. I did do a bit of wild swimming in the summer now that my youngest is becoming a strong swimmer rather than surveying him from the bank. Good to see the kids wearing life jackets Southams. As about 3 year ago went on a canoe trip, me and my sons, pulled up on a beach after about 4 hours where toddlers were padding etc, idyllic, my eldest took his life jacket off and went a little further out, got took by the current.. I went in after him & the only option was to go with the flow, with hindsight I should of put my life jacket back on & took one with me. We ended up clinging to a fallen tree for about an hour till rescuers came with a rope. 5 minutes after we got back to the beach the gendarmes turned up on the boats with the fans driving them like you see in Florida. Same time as the pompieres (firemen in France who double as ambulance/medics) who took us into the ambulance to check us over. Once given the all clear we still had another 2 hours plus to canoe back! Took a while to get over the thought of what couldve been.. I was filming my youngest in the water at the time & you can see the moment my eldest got taken by the current, only ever watched it back the once and it put the chills up me.

If that doesn't make anyone think twice about not wearing a life jacket ! Glad all turned out good ! Best swimmer in the world not good enough for what nature can throw at you
