I’ve been a few times found the magnets off eBay were shit got mine from online magnets miles better

Thanks for that, what sort of weight pull is a good place to start, I was thinking somewhere 60-100kg??

This is just for fun (at least to start with) I don't want/need enough power to lift a Safe.

Cheers

Edit...how close to advertised pull weight do you think they are, i.e. is a 100kg really 100kg or more like 50kg?

I got a little tiny thing, size of a Rollo lifts 25)30 kg handy if you drop something in the margins when fishing..the bigger is rated to 300kg...most of the time stuffs buried and full of silt etc so I couldn't really say about advertised pull weights,my pal has a couple,we used 2 to drag out the Honda? ?

no fishing clubs gonna moan,if you go along dragging out all the shit and leaving what you don't want on the bank in a neat pile ??

I would recommend getting some sort of permission from who ever owns the bank just to cover your arse like..

I would get fed up pulling out shopping trolleys ? what’s the rules with magnet fishing? Assuming you can’t just Chuck the rubbish you find back ?

Just left it on the bank on the advice of the friends of the canal i was doing it, they collected and disposed of it. They were happy when i found the bridge number plaque though.

Tried it a few times on the local canal, Multiple road signs, bike frames, even part of an old 410 hammer gun, never did find anything of value,

Theres a load of tidal Rene's/canals by us...for yrs the older leads were out robbing motorbikes, stripping and throwing the frames in this one section....filled a tipper every day for 3 days and weighed them all in,few yrs back,we used grappling hooks didn't need magnets?
