dev 227
i have had a couple in the past, bull cross terriers seem to have a great season or so,very hard but then alot of them get sickened and start messing about walking out in the middle of digs,NOT all of them by the way before people start jumping down my throat!!! but lots of them turn into quitters. stict to your fells mate if they are doing the bizz for you. jmo Quote Link to post
Guest pip
Why do you want them harder,im looking the other rd softer,if your doing any amount of digging you need a big kennel of hard dogs to make do,not to mention all the associated problems which will arise from keeping well worked hard dogs? The coloured terriers are hard enough i think, while a hard dog is admirable they are far from handy. I think theres this amalgamation of the game dog and the working dog idea in our countries and people need to redefine the properties desired in a suitable working earthdog.IMO that is get the game out or keep him busy long enough for the terrierman to dig them out while making it as handy as possible. Some dogs have a habit of making an easy dig difficult for themselves. Find another method of control. ie shooting, snaring etc. You say your dogs are not soft in any way so I presume they will shift stuff in other places, some earths are just not worth it, unless you are a professional terrier man and have to work these places. irwin 0
i have been asked on a number of times if i can move them but every time can not seem to do it. the terriiers work well on every other earth i put them to but just not this one Quote Link to post
diggory 130
you thought of blocking/stinkin out these harder earths ? into the surrounding earths .just something the old terrier boys used to do .manage your permission so to speak ! also whilst most staff cross terriers imo bite harder than a non staff cross they are by no means any gamer than a dog with no bull in it jmo ps some of the most gamest dogs i have seen have no recent bull blood in them.
