The right to protest which is a fundamental principle of democracy would quickly become a " hate crime " if the protected groups became offended dont worry about that.

Plenty of Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion protestors serving/served time in jail for their protests

Was it served for their protest though or something else....as in the fact that they protested ?.......in which case what was the actual charge do you know ?

They are generally smelly, annoying ejits but I reckon the future will view climate protesters as the hero's much as we see Suffragettes today whilst they were often vilified at the time.
