He was going about his lawful business and this is shocking.  Plus a caution for what ? . I am sure if he broke the law he would be in court  . Should be looking at taking the police to court !!

Never accept a caution .Either they charge you or forget it .Never ever accept a caution .

This is crucial. If not, it wasn't wise of him to be out in public with it. At my club, we require that guns should be in a slip or case at all times unless they are in use. It makes sense. Our range is on a large shared sports venue - with rugby, hockey and football fields and an athletics track -  and there are sometimes hundreds of people milling around. The average member of the public doesn't know the difference between an air rifle and any other firearm. It's not sensible to risk frightening them.

i agree, the law states. It is an offence to have an air weapon in a public place without a reasonable excuse. It is ultimately for the courts to decide what a reasonable excuse is.

No mention of police cautions.

Like I said, the article didn't give anywhere near enough info, for all we know he got a caution for telling the police to f**k off!!

Accepting a caution is an admission of guilt, i agree with you not enough information to make a judgement on what happened.
