Country has gone made Man cautioned after air rifle carried near school - BBC News WWW.BBC.CO.UK The person carrying the gun did not intend to cause alarm to the public, police say. If not, it wasn't wise of him to be out in public with it. At my club, we require that guns should be in a slip or case at all times unless they are in use. It makes sense. Our range is on a large shared sports venue - with rugby, hockey and football fields and an athletics track - and there are sometimes hundreds of people milling around. The average member of the public doesn't know the difference between an air rifle and any other firearm. It's not sensible to risk frightening them. 1 Quote Link to post

It is an offence to have an air weapon in a public place without a reasonable excuse. It is ultimately for the courts to decide what a reasonable excuse is. No mention of police cautions.
