minion 29
When you end up getting to 1/8 does it matter? Ie - If you had a 3/4 grey 1/4 Other Breed and put a pure grey over they would be 7/8 Grey 1/8 Other breed. Do you think these pups would be better that a pure grey stamina wise etc? Or, say you put a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie over a pure whippet the pups would be 1/2 whippet, 3/8 grey 1/8 collie. Do you think the 1/8 collie would make a diferance compared to a 1/2 whippet 1/2 Grey? Stamina wise, brain wise etc? Would appreciate everyones thoughts. Quote Link to post

For example if you had a pure greyhound bitch and you wanted to breed litter out of her to race [say on the flaps ] you would put a pure greyhound across her as you are after pure pace.If you put her to a 3/4 grey,1/4 collie you'd definately lose some pace, even though they'd be 7/8th greyhound. So I'd say yes an eighth can make a difference. Quote Link to post

dennned 172
in reply to your question, i keep 7/8greyx 1/8 collie, and yes they are very fast, but they also have loads of stamina aswell, it just depends on how they're reared and trained , put it this way , a 100m sprinter could'nt possibly run more than 300m without running out of steam could he, but if he was trained with more stamina minded training , he would gradually get better at staying further ,it has a lot to do with what type of training you give your dog , this bitch has pace and stamina to burn and the litter brother has aswell, these dogs trot behind my van for about 4>6 miles every other day on forrest tracks, thats where they get there stamina from, so all in all its really about there training , hope thats cleared up your queery Quote Link to post
minion 29
Cheers Denned, I pm'd you in the past and remeber what you said. Was just wondering if anyone else had a 1/8 and what they thought. Do you think that if you trained a pure greyhound in the same way you train your dogs you would improve the stamina so they can run longer? Quote Link to post
Guest mush
yes they have a lot less stamina than say a 1/4 bred and they don't have that much. A 1/8 trained as denned does behind a car will most likely will show as much stamina as a lot of other % crosses if not more, because most dogs aren't even 50% fit no mater how much walking they get. samba how was the dog single handed would you get as many runs out of her as when running doubled up? still four runs is good even if doubled up, was that over a morning or day? Do you think that if you trained a pure greyhound in the same way you train your dogs you would improve the stamina so they can run longer? im sure you could , but just remember it's the individual dog , not everyone , not all dogs are capable of having plenty of stamina, they have to have the engine required, but good luck trying Quote Link to post

She has loads of brain and endless amounts of stamina, she never tires out. If i called her a whippet/grey no one would beleive me because she's blue merle!!!!! Although she looks like a whippet.
