TOPPER 1,809
out for alook this morning as the keeper said there was a new earth on the top bank, well we strolled up and found an old rabbit warren dug out, entered molly my pat bitch shot in like an exocet a little bit of baying then out she come with a cub in her mouth totally unharmed [ unusal for her as she quite a hard bitch] i got the cub of her and down she goes again and back with another this time got her on a lead and placed the cubs as far as possible back down the hole god willing the vixen will collect them up and they will survive for another day, we need more foxes as there in short supply around here due to all the badgers competing for the same turf and it looks like this seasons over for us now! lakieman 25
im sure the keeper wont be happy uve let a den of cubs go on his estate will coz terrible damage it just shows you they are all breeding at differentimes i go round all the dens on a grouse moor in april we got one den the cubs were about 8 weeks old massive then the other side of the hill we got a den they were only a couple of days old Edited January 30, 2008 by lakieman Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
its all about balance as i stated we havent got many foxes around so letting them live wont do any harm if we were overrun with ginger rats that would be a different kettle of fish our biggest problem is badgers and all the bunnie huggers out watching them. just been out for a walk no sign of the cubs so fingers crossed they will survive its all about natures balance why would you want to wipe out next years sport when theres not to much about now? That's what it's all about - ensuring you have future sport. At the end of the day what the keeper doesn't know wont hurt him Quote Link to post
lakieman 25
sounds more like a nature reserve to me any decent keeper wouldnt tolerate a den of cubs on there shoot regardless if ther wasnt many about a vixen and dog do some killing to feed a den of cubs Quote Link to post
jackthedog 0
yeah i dont think the keeper will be too happy you let the cubs survive but i can understand why you let them Quote Link to post

alun1960 234
Totaly agree with Topper , leave them live if there is a shortage in your area ! Quote Link to post
lakieman 25
if you think about it there are born on an estate so it is very likley the keeper will find them sooner or later and if he doesnt he will probarly snare them or shoot them before next season or a neighbouring keeper will get them the chances of them still being about next season are very slim topper you should hav enjoyed a dig since you dont get many and done the keeper a favour at the same time Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
lakie man i am out all the time diggin all i said was we havent got many foxes around here and i dont see the piont of wholesale slaughter for the sake of it the biggest problem we have apart from the badgers is the rifle boys that come out of bristol shooting everything that moves from there cars/trucks they shoot the deer and are to lazy to get out and go and pick it up they just shoot for the sake of it, total madness it just gets all the huntin boys a bad name, myself i like to see a good variety of wildlife a bit of everything and ill strive to keep the balance theres enough room for it all but we do need a badger cull to get the balance back the worst thing that happened was protecting badgers we never had these problems before the badger act. iam all for pest control but not wholesale slaughter for the sake of it, slaughter only if it needs it everything deserves respect and a chance of life Quote Link to post
