Guest Ditch_Shitter
" Long hot days and Harvest ". Thanks for the reminder, Rolfe. If it wasn't for Dean O's timely intervention with his quad, trailer and strength, I think the last harvest would have killed me. And here's my point; This place is full of kids and others bleating about how to get permission and farmers who don't want to know. Then there's the 'I'll just help myselfish' types. But where the hell are Any of them when the sun's beating down and there's a hundred bales an acre, all needing to be man handled into stacks. Then physically lifted onto a trailer. Then wanting a short chain of strong and willing arms to get them into the store for the coming winter? Where are they? I don't get any offers. Then, soon after, people come out of the wood work expecting to be given freedom to enjoy a 'Harvest' of their own Consider the two: A man whose back is almost broken and is bone tired from long hot days of grafting in his fields is confronted by a stranger asking a Huge liberty. A man smiling because this Harvest was made a pleasure by the arrival of a couple of willing helpers with whom to share the graft, some craic and, later, a cooling draught. Oh, and didn't those guys mention they like to hunt? Why ever not! Quote Link to post
Sorley x 32
Like any farmer knows: you can only harvest that which you have put effort into cultivating. Quote Link to post

Guest reload
I understand where your coming from ditch, but a little extreme for me.....feck hand loading bales on a trailer thats what a tractors for!!! ;) But lending a hand here and there has sure got me some permission, moving cows, making sure a fence is made secure etc etc.. Thats how the countryside generally works, you help me I help you... I suspect many towns folk dont get it, and they never will, but thats why we dont help them IMO, as there usually on the take, with nothing in return..... A urbanite or stranger with a couple of dogs asking to run some hares, is gonna need to build up some trust...and with a attitude like the above replies, I would tell em to feck rett arff moi lannd. Good pic Rolfe, I love that time of year, as you have the season ahead of you Quote Link to post

Guest reload
That attitude stinks, sod working a few days, i understand that, but if you complain about being out with your dogs, and paying for ammo, and fuel, your just a miserable sod..........and cant like the game that much IMO There are pest jobs that pay, but you may need to use your head and build up a decent reputation first Quote Link to post
paddy.t 5
i have worked on a farm for 2 years now all conditions 10 hours and have a done any hunting on that land :o have i feck!!! i have asked but its always a no thankyou! and the work i do is free well in that case mate ide tell him where to go. bit of give and take. i don't see anything rong with repaying you by letting you go on with air rifle or ferrets , end of the day its still helping him out getting rid of vermin. don't get anything for free in this life Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
Gotta disagree with Bobsuperdog, terrible attitude to have imo Reckon the farmer would love a few chav's charging round his fields at night letting of rounds at anything that moves, disturbing stock and busting fences etc....Not saying you fit the description Bob so please don't get the hump with me. To be able to walk freely and hunt on another's land is a privilege and an honour and has to be earnt. Peace and happiness to all hunters and landowners! Quote Link to post

Oh, and didn't those guys mention they like to hunt? Why ever not! Ditch..........my sentiments exactly.........the farms i use to "help me unwind" in the summer months are the same ones i catch moles on during the winter months...........Free of charge. By offering my normally expensive services to the farmers..........i get free access to rabbiting, pigeon shooting, etc. It works well and all parties are happy with the deal, and often i have helped cart the corn if a driver has been missing for a day..........You scratch my back etc. Happy Days.............Rolfe. MikeTheDog 153
Stick with it Will', the gcsa should earn you more cash in the future . Maybe you aint asking him the right way, perhaps he thinks you'll turn up with all your mates . Why not suggest that you and he do a spot of ferreting, he might like to shoot over them! How long before some fecker says, "feck the gcse they aint worth diddly squat!" ..Don't listen to them Will! Quote Link to post
