OldPhil 5,676
A reliable Marking Dog,..is a massive tool in the pro-rabbiter's armoury. The action of marking an occupied warren (or other hiding place), of a particular quarry, is childish simple for most canines,..however,..only a few lurchers are ever allowed (or requested) to undertake,.. this useful task... It's all down to what you want from a dog... Edited March 26, 2023 by OldPhil 6 Quote Link to post

It’s heart breaking and extremely frustrating but there you go. It’s that time of year now to be very selective where I walk. Going be long summer Quote Link to post

moonlighter 1,163
I think that dogs can learn when to mark and when not too. When I’ve got the ferrets my dogs are pretty useful markers..but when I’m not ferreting I don’t really want them marking a hole until I arrive. When I’m bushing my dogs will offen ignore holes, as they know they’re hunting up for stuff on top. 1 Quote Link to post
Aussie Whip 4,092
When ferreting I'd take a good marking dog over a great runner and catcher any day. My old dog had it all and was never wrong, miss that dog. 4 Quote Link to post
