The government needs tax revenue for its budget. When it cuts tax in one area to bring about change, it either makes up the short fall somewhere else or it waits for the change to take effect and then makes up for the losses. The same will happen with the TV license. It won’t truly be abolished unless they shut down the bbc or change the way it’s financed to match ch4. But as all politicians do, they lie through their teeth. We had past Transport Secretaries praising EV's being exempt from road tax, pushing the narrative, when they knew all along it was just a gimmick to try and attract sales.
