martin 332
I had been asked to get down to a very local nursery(saplings etc.)that is getting annihilated by the rabbits. They have ring barked a load of good sized crab apple trees too.I was joined today by 'Hywel' off this site(a very nice bloke)and,we got there and,we both were of the same opinion that there were a lot of rabbits at work here. The buries were right next to a very busy main road with only a very small verge, and, the holes were as always(for me anyway)almost all deep in the blackthorn and bramble. We got to work straight away, and, netted the first 50yds of the bank.I have to honest right now,and say that I was expecting a very good bag from this job........... !!!! The ferret was entered, and,we stood back in anticipation, and,we didn't have long to wait.......because the ferret went through the bury like a dose of salts, and the end result was .........zero! Now......this went on with every bury in the bank, bar 1 rabbit that exited on the roadside from a small bolt hole that we didn't see and,one other that slipped a net !!! We moved along to where the bulk of the damage was being done,and...............yes you guessed it........nothing at home again. This was really messing with my mind now, and,as we moved onto another section,it was with a certain amount of disbelief, but,we connected and we all of a sudden had a second wind(one bunny in the bag)!! Oh,I don't think we should of got our hopes up though,as that was it...........NO MORE AT HOME.(unbelieveable). As the day was getting on a bit by now,I suggested we went over the road to the old pig farm, and do a bury there that usually gives up a few or 6. Well, that was also wishful thinking,as we only got the one from there as well .I was begining to feel like Rafa Benitez by now(he only seems to draw nowadays.......rabbits 2 - ferts 2) Light finally got the better of us,and,we called it a day.I must say though, even though it was a ferreting nightmare I still enjoyed the day(better than watching Jeremy Kyle on the box int it!)and,I especially enjoyed the company.........And,I hope that the next time you come over Hywel we will have a better day out! If you are waiting for some photo's now......You must be joking!!!! If it was easy though, everyone would be doing it wouldn't they...eh? Quote Link to post

martin 332
Martin mate sometime being out is enough a few rabbits are a bonus Yes you are right Bob,but,it gets worse,we had a rabbit each, and, when I skinned mine it was riddled with tape worm cysts    ..............Do many people on here find tapeworm cysts in the rabbits they get, and,if so is there sheep on the land? Not sur if there is a direct link,but,3 out of 6 rabbits caught on this particular ground had them.......................is there a link or is it just a coincidence??? Quote Link to post

Hywel 53
I would just like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you to Martin for "sharing" his permission for the day, which speaks volumes for the guy We did experience some baffling situations, irrespective of the years between us we've been ferreting. It was a great day out in top company and should a myxi deterrent be invented then the invite will be returned next season. As Martin has already said "if only it was always as easy every time!" Guest Bigbob
The thing that surprises me about the cyst's is they just appear about anywhere on the rabbits body you might expect them on the stomache area but ive had them on the back legs ets . Quote Link to post

mooster 1
Well done guys.Reading about days like this is as enjoyable as the big bag days in my opinion.....because I can realte to your experience more easily!! I too have loads of hawthorn hedges as described by LLloyd and without a lurcher seem to spend too much time watching bunny skip off across the field away from me. It's great being out though.I treat ferreting like fishing....much of the enjoyment is in the preparation and hunting, not just big bags. Quote Link to post
