I think it is there. At times I still think he is finding his feet but at 2.5yr he should already have done. He's quick off the mark but seems to not want to go full tilt. Like he aint too sure where his front feet are and was wondering if this was coz he's so heavy up front or a case of he aint judging the distance correctly so slows early to be sure

Mek sure u get at least 3 turns in wi the motor first ? Soz

I'm definitely no expert lol, but dropping the weight of the dog , fitness obviously.

I am going to judge you now  the dog is what he is and if you wanted a slight speed machine should bought whippet. All you can do is keep him fit and thats your lot really

He 'might' be carrying a slight injury, which prevents him going 100% flat out.

Not saying he is, but it is a possibility.

Might be worthwhile getting him checked out.

Good luck with him, anyway.  ?

yeah weren't thinking about coursing to be fair. Just want him to be a bit sharper on the mooch.

looks a stonker fair play. How old?

He was two in January. I only got him going this season just gone. He took forever to mature so I didn't rush things. Even my old deerhound cross was lamping rabbits at a year old.

Try taking him ferreting with nets next season so he knows he's allowed to grab them.

Aint put him out on owt yet. Only 18months-ish at start of season. He was slow on the mature, didnt feel he had the feet and didnt want to risk injury with him being so heavy.

Could be he just ain't a naturally fast dog.

Seen quite a few 'slow' lurchers over the years, even owned a couple lol.

He will only run  as fast as his genetics allow , maybe take him to a bone man get him checked over for any injuries...drop a few pounds off him,see how he goes? Other than that, good diet of raw and lots of exercise, can you not run him with another lurcher? Get him out ferretting and get some fur into his mouth, may improve his prey drive...I personally would do it now before next season or he be nearly 3 yr old?

Prey drive is great. He'd run through brick walls to get to feather! Just aint run him on fur

You're confusing me, mate.

You've not ran him on fur, just feather,he has great prey drive, but you don't think he's running fast enough?!

Not following you at all!!
