the tacticals first blood

hello all, as some of you may have seen from the new members section, i picked up a bsa tactical xl last saturday and spent all day shooting targets after zeroing. i love this rifle , it handles great. the stock makes it for me. anyway, was out the field at the back of house(i have permission to shoot before anyone jumps down my throat lol) about 5pm lastnight shooting targets and tins in preperation for some rabbit bashing this saterday evening, when along comes a squirrel through a bush and straight up onto the fence. my scope is zeroed to 30yds, and the fence is just a bit further than that from where was sitting. i naturally brought the gun up to shoulder had him dead in the sites , squeezed the trigger, squirrel was nowhere to be seen. jogged up to fence ,peered over and it was stone dead. beautifull headshot and great start to the tacticals glittering career of dispatching squirrel, rabbit, rats & pigeon. been getting some great groupings at 30yds and feel confident that its got a fair bit more in it once im proficent enough after getting a true feel for this on paper targets. i would be interested to hear if any other members own a tactical or are thinking of purchasing one in the future. i have an old school lightning which i cant sing enough praises for over the years. but the tacticals taking all the simple ruggedness of the original and tweeked it to perfection. i may just have rose tinted specs on though lol :clapper:

hello there, mine is .22 and come with 4x32 scope+sling+pellets+targets+hardcase, stuck my hawke 3-9x40 on it after a few shots at home. the 4x32 was fine though. i just prefer the other. took me quite awhile to take the plunge money wise, but am so glad i did. not at any point felt disapointed with it infact it feels like i got a bargin. my set-up cost £295 , i know that there are better deals to be had if you look around but i thought this was reasonable and i like to give the local shop my custom. goin rabbit bashing this sat so i'll let you no how it pans out then. for what i've shot of it already though it has been consistent and powerful. infact with the logan penetrators it came with it was spitting them out a fair bit over 12ftlbs when i checked on the chroney, acupells were bang on though , so i will have to keep a close eye on new pellet brands till i decide what to go with. acupells have always served me well though so i stick to them for time being. have you held the tactical yet? that was the clincher for me :D

great postmate.

thats really cheered me up. im getting a tactical tomorrow(31st jan).ive had bsa in the past and to be frank i cant fault them.i mainly rabbit hunting with the lamp.(no dog)and thought about time i had an upgrade of rifle.i currently own a supersport.and relum tornado, which i brung back to life with a new spring, plus washers etc.but when your walking in field for hours on end it tends to get a bit heavy.mind you for a underlever.and being nearly 30 years old.it still puts pay to bunnys.one question ill like to ask .is it heavy/ :big_boss:

Had a BSA Lightning when they first came out one of the best springers I have owned for the price consistant, accurate and a pleasure to shoot, sold it to a mates dad so I could upgrade to a PCP. He still has it and has never tweaked it in any way since I sold him it and he says it's just as good as the day I sold him it so if the Tactical XL is from the same stable you definately will not be dissapointed, happy hunting and let us know how you are getting on.

hello all, ballistikbaz are you getting .22 or.177 ?, the tactical feels just right weight wise . its not heavy but by no means stupidly light, it feels solid and no rattles or movement. just feels like a piece of high quality kit. i get the gun horn everytime i take it out of the case :icon_eek: . like i said ,im out sat evening with the rifle where i have decided to declare a jihad on the rabbits in the field so i'll let you know how it feels after a proper session on the move. dont even need to say hope you like the tactical, cos ur gonna love it

I bought my tactical last year , with hawke eclipse 3X9X40 SCOPE, I have 2 pcps both in multishot, but I have to say my tactical is my favourite rifle, love the little gun, my mate cant understand why I leave my pcps at home and take the tactical on my shoot, easy! IM NOT SICK OF PLAYIN WITH IT LOL,Ive been hunting with air rifles since the 60s long before pcps were popular, from relum tornados to bsa airsporter to webley vulcan and on, but this little fella beats em all ( in my opinion) mind I have to say if im clearing rats or on a serious rabbit shoot I use the pcps, quicker and more accurate, but for sheer skill and pleasure give me a good springer.

Hello mate, its all a matter of preference, cometas are nice guns, I used to take a fennix out, dont know much about the 300, but if u shop around u wont pay much more for a tactical and scope, got mine from target sports with scope £240 delivered, but of course no mail order now.

yeah im goin down to the shop on monday, so if theve got one in il get it with the 3-9 x 40, willing to spend 300 for the full kit, I probs wouldnt notice a difference in performance as im new to shooting but it seems bsa is more reputable, plus it looks alot meaner than the 300. il let use know how good me haggleing skills are soon lol.

sounds like a good deal mate, happy hunting.

yeah its pretty good, feels nice and solid and well built, getting 1 inch groups at about 20 yards, only when resting my gun on something though lol, having trouble with my scope though after a bit the recticule starts to go blurry and seem to dissapere i know its not the scope but my eye playing tricks on me is there anything i can do to combat this??
