Crack from super sonic bullets increases as the size of the bullet increases. So it will be loader. The mod isn't there to moderate the sonic crack, just the combustion gasses rapid expansion.

Yep, the sonic crack always happens outside the barrel and passed the mod, so there is nothing you can do about it.

I think technically, Silencers are only applicable to sub sonic ammo, after that they are Sound Moderators, although the name seems interchangeable with various manufacturers/retailers/users!!!

Both my .22LR have a SAK on the end, so does my WMR, my HMR has a SM11, and when they dies it will get a SAK as well.  The SAK is still one of the cheapest on the market and I'm more than happy with its performance on Sub Sonic and HV!

:good:

PS I have heard good things about the A-Tec Wave, both price and performance, but have no personal experience of this one!!

What Im guess I’m saying is that .22 subs can be dulled by an airgun rated mod which most .22 are fitted with .If I had a better mod on there would it decrease the crack or not .I was told years ago by a gunsmith to take the mod off for HV as it didn’t do it any good .Probs old wives tale .Instead of a 17 I might start using HV in .22 but hate that muzzle crack .

A moderator will always reduce the propellant crack, the better the mod is suited to the appropriate ammo, the better it will improve the moderation of the propellant crack, but regardless, with HV there will be a limit on the moderation of the propellant crack.   In either case it will have no effect on the Sonic crack!  You will be better moving from an Air Rifle type mod to a LR Mod regardless, if you want to use HV ammo, the SAK does this fine (there are others), and I use it for .22LR Subs and WMR, no problems with either, except its life may be slightly reduced with HV.

The nature of HV means the moderator construction can change from assorted acoustic wadding, (Mainly Air Rifle types, which "can" be quite good for sub sonic, but have serious limitations with HV).    If you really want the best with .22LR HV ammo then a HMR type mod may be worth considering (make sure the hole is 22 though, some have a dedicated 17 hole)

In simple terms, the better the mod on HV the better the sound reduction, but only by small margins generally, Silence is still a distant dream!

Old, but maybe worth a look.................

Thanks mate .I’ll see if the 223 mod fits ?

To be honest its worth a try, but hole size really needs to be as close to the specific calibre as possible (for best results), and baffles on centrefire Mods are built/balanced to work with higher velocity projectiles.

So, although the likes of a centrefire mod should be of some help, you may actually find you get better results with a HMR/.22LR specific Mod!

I would completely discount anything close to an AIR Rifle mod on a .22LR either Sub or HV.

The .223 mod is a centre .22 mate .

That's good then, some are a wider range! :good:

Odds are pretty strong though you will get better results with a rimfire mod on there rather than the CF one!
