Major Badger 2
I was shooting on Sat, (walking gun), and came across 2 dead sheep (fully grown) in a field, within about 100 yards of each other, but the one's head was about 8/10 foot away from the body. (The head was up the bank further, the body lower) I didn't have time to run over and have a decent look at any wounds, as I was lagging behind a bit anyway, but any idea what may have done it? Dog? badger? fox? I'm not wanting to know what could of killed them, but what would/could possible chew/remove the head (as I'm sure it wasn't there 2 weeks ago, I don't think it would of simply rotted off). I wish I had of stopped and taken some photos on my phone. If I get the chance I may see if I can get back up there on the weekend. Hope someone can shed a bit of light on this. Major Badger 2
did you tell the farmer i smell a big cat? There is talk of such animals round here, but I wouldn't of thought even a big cat would take the head off!?! I told the main shoot organiser, ( I don't know the farmer), and I would image he'd tell the farmer when he dropped off some birds to him.

lurchergrrl 1,441
I should think if it was a big cat that removed the head, it woud've maybe dragged away the bits it wanted to eat, not just left it all there? I thought the big cat thing was an urban myth. We've got them in Canada, but I have a hard time imagining them lurking in the British countryside.

BlueCoyote 0
i am surprised everyone leaps to badger/fox/cat instead of the usual suspects... feral dogs or dogs with nothing better to do. if it were an animal out for food it would have chewed the carcass a bit. but a dog out for sport would just kill it, mangle it a bit, then go for the next one. since there were two dead sheep close by then there was probably more than one dog.. i would have gone to explore the area, behind/late or not.. mysterious occurrences deserve exploring! lol two years ago i was with my husband walking around on some farm land for sale.. had a huge tractor shed with stalls and such... and one small room for tools... curious to see what was in side i opened the door and found the dried out remains of a large calf lying on an old rotten mattress..... obviously one of two things happened..... though the most likely thing was that the calf got himself in that room and couldnt get out again and died as a result. i wanted to take his skull with me because i collect them - it was perfectly intact - though still quite fuzzy with dried out hide still attached - but my husband said no... no dead fluffy cow head was ever to ride in his mustang
