tatsblisters 10,075
Got two grown up Daughters who both when youngsters saw my lurchers run hares as adults even though one has an old lurcher and the other a springer spaniel they have no interest in hunting and I would never dream in this day and age to try and get my grandkids interested in something they have no interest in. Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Forcing anything on kids tend to back fire .My lad was out with me at 7 years or so ,shot his first deer at 10 ,allegedly . He then had a lay off for few years while he sorted out his love life at work .He’s now with a country girl who fits in very well with our family and he’s back at it making me a very proud dad . Hes now got all my rifles and shotguns on his ticket plus a couple of his own .Hunting is hunting and I see no divide in whether it’s dogs ,ferrets ,hawks ,rods or guns .His girlfriend is a hunter as well ,rides to hounds . The future will be decided by others outside of it with nothing we will be to do .Hate to say it but that’s the truth I fear .

paulus 26
I have said this before, My two were brought up in the countryside and learned the stuff we took for granted everyday, But and its a BIG but, Things have changed that fast around here over the last few years. Most of the land i hunted as a kid and as an adult is now land banked by big investment companies, They are planning 7500 new houses and a retail park next to our village with a population of roughly 840, Other than fishing or ferreting the game is over, sad thing to say but a reality unless i move to god knows where, I am of the older generation and don't fit in with the modern world, a dinosaur, a relic from the past, as are most on here. Keep on, as long as you can. teach your kids and grandkids as much as you can, even if they think they don't need it in todays world, As the world can quickly change,
poxon 5,751
I’m not going to push my boys in to hunting or lurcher work if they find it by there selfs I’ll guide them but to be honest I think hunting with dogs will be over completely by then I’d rather guide them in to getting a good career

When we moved here 24 years ago our hamlet had a population of about 80, and that was with a park home included. They've recently built a housing estate with about 400 houses on fields that I used to have the last shine on after a nights lamping local. Cheers, D.

I picked a brand new air gun up the other year a webley nemesis for one of my grandson's 14th birthday present it's still in the box in the spare bedroom after I decided against letting him have it plus I got earache of his mother my oldest daughter.
