When i was a young teen i always wanted a wee dog,but me mum was having none of it,my friend got his first lurcher,whippetsalukigrey,he was green as grass as i was an we started to walk the fields.

Wee lass was her name,small blonde little thing with a look on her face like she was in the twilight zone lol.she was only six months when we started walking the fields,soon enough we bumped into a lad who still is my good mate today,he had two big salukiwheatongreys,impressive looking things,so i asked him point blank could i go out some night with him,he says yes.

So it came the night to go out,we were walking of course,local fields around us,plenty of rabbits about the two dogs caught seven,i was loving it an wanted a lurcher but me mum still says naw.

So time passed an i headed out with the two lurchers many more times,he even lent me the dogs to take out myself with my other friend an his we lass,we learned quick an i was grateful for his generosity.soon the summer came an i headed of to donegal to our caravan park,it bordered a golf course then the beach,this course was hiving way  rabbits an they were clueless often just sitting there as we walked past,an i was thinking this be a good spot.

It was the last week in august an nearly time to head back to derry for school starting,my mum was very ill in an out of hospital,i had befriended the caravan parks owners grandchildren,we were great mates an i stayed down there when my mum was to ill.so i headrd back home an got uniforms sorted,i was heading back down to stay with them for the last week when my friend who owned lass calls over to me with a wee scruffy lurcher called sal,she looked old enough an he ssys here shes yours,i got her for you,i still wasnt allowed a dog so i made a plan i would take her on down to donegal with me lol

So my friend that took me out says here take the lamp an pack with you,an my sis took me down.i got down there near dark not knowing were i was going to put sal but didnt care as i was that excited lol,so me an sal with the lamp an pack headed to the pier to meet my two friends an three locals who i was staying with,met up with them an after alot of questions we were on our way with three local lads who were amazed an intriguied at what i had planned.

So we headed from the pier over to the golf course flicked the lamp on,rabbits everywere,so i slipped we sal straight out the beam,nailed a rabbit,the joy an excitment was unreal as were the friends with me,ran over got the bitch an rabbit,flicked the lamp on an rabbits everywere still haha,we sal had caught ten by the time we got to the end of the course,we were all amazed an we sal was praised up an down.

The battery had almost died when one of local friends who was with us says up to my house iv a big charger well charge an go back out,so of we went got the battery on charge for hour while we sat praising we sal,the battery was charged so off we went down the road,i lamped up the field an see a fox,i attempted a squeal lol the fox started flying down,so in excitment i started running toward the gate,next thing boom me an sal are down a te foot hole not knowing wtf happened lol.

The lads came running down an literally pulled us up out of the hole,we were gran so headed on,the fox was gone so we headed on down the road,the next fields were along the beach very bumpy with holes dotted around the field,yous know the type,so in we go seen a rabbit caught it,caught another two,great,next slip let we sal go down over a wee hill an never came back,i started to worry an started running towards her,over the hill an spied her lying stone dead,f***ing gutted i was an so was my friends,we were six miles from the site an i picked her up threw hsr over my shoulder an carried her the whole way back,we buried her just outside the caravan site in the field,with a we cross,gutted i was but that was me hooked an never looked back,she lasted one night,but caught 12 or 13 rabbits,my inexperience killed her cause i shouldnt have slipped her in that field,i was only 15 but that was one night il never forget

She was king,she looked like a wee beddy whippet cross,she knew her game,looked like she seen plenty of fox,she was old an died doing what she loved.
