Those lion were standard lions,bought 50 years ago,I worked at the park for a week as a kid saw the lions often as a visitor,were jag lion around back then?Spotted lion with rosettes were a thing back in Africa in the 1930’s,rarities but they existed,though not nowadays.

Thought you would know about the place mate, only been living this way 9 years and it’s one of the old estate places I like a walk through local with out the dogs

I did a weeks work experience there when I was 15,the park had closed by then but some of the animals were still there,used to be a £1 for a car to get in when the place was open.The baboons escaped once and a few of them had to be shot.

First recorded jaglion were cubs born in Ontario Canada in April 2006 the pic of the lions in Lambton Lion Park was taken 1970’s,standard lions not hybrids.

 On reading the title thought it may be about Gary Lineker, perhaps woke up from his woke nonsense and remembered that he was born with a pair of testicles and has millions of pounds and wanted to enjoy life rather than winge about other people's real or imaged social problems. But no, just some American bloke that I have never heard of.

I remember going there as a kid in the early 70's, if you went by on the bus you used to be able to see the Giraffes from the the top deck. There was something in the local paper last year (Evening Chronicle iirc) for the 50th anniversary and I'm sure it said most of the animals were bought from (Jimmy?) Chipperfields Circus. It was closed in 1980 due to rising costs and is slowly being covered in houses.

A bit like ghosts and aliens, if you catch one then you can prove they are real, but cannot prove they do not exist just by the fact that you have not caught one.

The head zoo keeper was called John I think,from memory.He told me loads of tales of catching the animals in Africa,which sounded incredible to a 15 year old Sunderland urchin with zero life experience,in hindsight the stories were bollocks and he probably never ventured past Middlesbrough.

That was the chronicle article I read online and posted the picture of mate, sad to see the old gates and that rotten away closed but some nice walks along it and some decent fishing spots
