As my mum raised us herself, he took me out in the countryside bird-watching, teaching me about nature, taught me to play the bagpipes. Still going strong at 83 (my Auntie often asks when he's planning on growing up?) My section commander when I was in basic training. He took a 19yr old, cocky little sh1t and made something of him. He went onto bigger and better things in the forces then rejoined civvy street a couple of years ago and we're still the best of mates nearly 20yrs down the line. A man I'm proud to call friend - JH. She had such a hard, sad life ... but she still found ways to laugh, she was loving and generous with her time, and very patient. I miss her. My Aunty Lynne - great fun, always ready for a laugh, would try just about anything once and she's a proper classy lady to boot. And my Mum, even though we've spent most of our time at odds with each other. I learned her good things, and also learned to forgive all the things about her I didn't like! My stepdad, who instilled an appreciation for the finer things in life. He was interested in just about everything, and also willing to give anything a go at least once. He knew how to live in the bush with nowt more than a knife, make a fortune running his own business, and taught me to take life as it comes - flexibility is the key! My biological Mum - 'cause she's tough, she tells you straight, she's strong, independant and despite not growing up with her, I'm an awful lot like her. I hung on to his every word.Though some of his sayings did nt sink in until later on in life.One of them was treat everybody like you d like em to treat you.And if someone was bragging on a bit. He d say ah well you know lad empty vessels do tend to make a lot a noise. He never raised a hand to me, He did nt need to he was the last person on earth i wanted to disapoint. No but i've heard of Ron Jeremy For me it would be people like David Attenborough and later Steve Irwin for wildlife. Jim Corbetts books also inspired me as a kid but there are thousands of role models performing thankless jobs around us everyday who I have respect for, nurses, carers etc etc.....................
