Ste* 0
Will it be a good idea to feed the ferret before going hunting because it wont be hungry so it wont kill in or is it a bad idea because it wont want to work because its already had a feed . Do you feed yours before a hunt? Edited January 28, 2008 by Ste* Quote Link to post

Hob&Jill 258
I feed as normal, Just feed the night before. I find when I feed them in morning, they dont seem quite as keen. They also shit all over the carry box lol. A ferret with a full stomach is surely going to tire alot quicker than one with a normal load inside them. As they will use energy digesting it and also weigh more. Just a thought..??.. So personally, I think if you want to get the best out of your ferret them feed the night before. H&J Quote Link to post

Ste* 0
These lads who i use to go with they starved theres for 2-3 days but i think thats just shocking its obvious that they are going to kill in because they are that hungry and they did they killed in every time. But there are a lot of different oppinions on it people say its better not to feed them because they work better. and some say its better to feed them because they dont kill in. para1 11
Feed your ferrets the night before as normal they will work harder for longer if they kill they wont stay with it.Starve them and they will kill and not want to leave. Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,819
I feed my lot at about 5 every evening, whether they are going out next day or not. Whatever I feed them, either fresh or dried food it doesen't seem to make a difference whether they kill in or no, just depends where the rabs are, ferrets kill for fun, hungry or well fed, but well fed ferrets will work longer, harder, faster stronger! stubby 175
I always feed at night, around 7pm, raw rabbit, if going ferreting the next morning, I'll open the court up around 5am, turn the light on, let them wake up and do their morning buisness, before boxing them up at 6am, the work great all day, and very rarely kill undergrown, either midday, or just before we leave to come home, I'll pop a couple of rabbit kidneys in with them as a treat/appertizer if you think you gonna be out all day, take a water bottle with ya, if you fancy a drink/cuppa, then Im sure they do too Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
This is one of these threads when I think: Thank God for the Internet!! reams of common sense and good advice....so hopefully those people who don't understand their animals' needs can come on here and read and learn and there will be one or two more ferrets, dogs or whatever which can start to live happier and more useful lives. phil_h 53
Ive made the mistake of not feeding my ferrets before going out and lost 1 and had to dig another out. now i always feed them before i go, but not straight before, give them a good feed about 3 hrs [bANNED TEXT] going or leave just enough food to see them through the night so that they're not hungry when you take them in the morning phil_h Quote Link to post

Guest Bigbob
I alway feed mine at night same as the dogs feed them then they settle down for the night . So when i pick what ferrets i want for the days ferreting theres still bits of rabbit in the hutch a good ferret should hunt for fun NOT BECAUSE ITS HUNGRY Quote Link to post
