My old Sunday league was one of the biggest in the country at one time I believe, from memory it was 10 divisions of between 10 to 15 teams…..they had to split the divisions so that new entry teams could progress in a decent amount of time.

Now it’s a bit of a shadow of that with only 4 divisions and around 35-40 teams.

In fairness Essex into east London is a massive football area with generally a very, very high standard at most levels….there are hundreds and hundreds of teams across the county and into East London from Sunday to non league.

Its still big, very big as one look at Essex FA and the various leagues it governs will tell anyone.

Local football seems very alive and healthy despite the fine line some clubs tread financially.

As you know mate very few Hammers fans over the age of about 30 would ever dream of booking ourselves anything other than a little local club with a good following....its only these new young lot ( and you ) that ever wanted to be a big club

Its only Isthmian League mate,i have a few other business interests in the area so just made sense as a lifelong footie nut to get involved with the club....the biggest risk to non league clubs is being purchased and then run into the ground as little more than a land grab for housing developments,particularly in this area where land/property is expensive.....the Fa offer no protection below tier 6 so a clubs legal affairs have to be in order we recently got an " Asset of Community Value " order on the ground which i think is essential for the stability of the club/staff etc

These leagues are full of feeder clubs to the National League and lower leagues so theres plenty of talent and its all good honest competition,im really enjoying it.

I think it's great lads like you put a few quid in  and get involved in leagues like this for the benefit of the club and community rather than as you say cashing in on the land it's surprising how much talent is in those leagues and the passion just to play football fair play to you for investing in grass roots I wish your team every success

I don't think there's a football fan that's never heard of the Hackney marshes as you say the area as produced countless top class players  I have always associated London with either football or boxers

When the Hammers are away I often go down to Billericay and although they’ve dropped down, it’s still a good turn out and set-up there.
 

I always enjoy seeing and speaking to the old boys at these types of clubs who’s been following them for donkeys years and sport their little club badges like Uncle Albert’s war medals. Proper sense of community
 

They’ve a few players, the right back in particular who’s stands out at that level

Newcastle v Luton. As a fan with no great knowledge of the game who just wants to be entertained that's what I'm talking about. 3 points would have been nice but Luton more than deserved a share. Superb!

A fantastic game for neutrials but let’s be fair, if we can’t beat Luton at home, there’s no hope of a top six place.

You're probably right but I do remember a season when the club at the top of the table had a 12 point lead at Christmas but still got caught. Lots of games still to play
