Sausagedog 7,381
Old school. Lamping. Good stalk. He moved off, not lamp shy but suspected something. I caught him up 300yds later bedded down in a field just out of the cool wind. I kept inching closer as he snoozed but freezing as he took a look around. When I got that feeling he is going to see me in the moonlight and run I decided to take the shot. I got on the tripod and pressed the pressure switch for the gun light. Nowhere to be seen! Turns out he was napping and I had to wait for him to look around. When he did I took aim. I only had a head shot, I hate them head shots but all looked good so I fired. A good sound came back and he was laid out. Without hesitation I sent two more for good measure but they were not necessary. Big one. 111 paces. HMR. And yes I do sniff their arses! Big foot is his name. Edited December 29, 2022 by Sausagedog 9 3 Quote Link to post

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Nice one SD but I’m still bemused why you gave it two more rounds unless of course it was to get a bite this end .The new moon last night was very bright and the wind cold .Surprised it turned to rain and not a frost first thing this morning .I was out rabbiting with a mate with his 17 .14 rabbits ,a fox and 3 rats . The 17 probably the most versatile round when it’s working well . 2 Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
I was out just before Xmas and had a fox curl up in front of me , they had been mating further up the field and there were other foxes barking. There were sheep in the field and the grass was too long to get a decent shot from my vantage point , and I wasn’t after Charlie anyway so let it sleep . My nocturnal shooting has finished for the moment now . All the chickens have been locked up because of AI , so no need of protection . But I have a farm that will be lambing soon so I’m going to try to make a dent in their fox population now . I did get out in the snow to try and harvest some venison before Xmas . I found some roe in a dense bit of cover and had a bit of a challenging stalk but the snow wasn’t my friend and the crunching betrayed my presence. But I wasn’t bothered, it was a privilege to be alive and out with a rifle . Hope everyone had a good Christmas and wishing you all a happy new year . ATB 2 1 Quote Link to post

It also coincides with mysterious tyre tracks about that go back to neighboring shoot! Should of just bagged them but it's not how I roll. 2 Quote Link to post

ATB The sheds you’ve been to have been having a mare with foxes digging in mate but hopefully a concerted effort by myself and a mate have sorted the main culprit ,caught in the act of digging into a shed and accounted for . Hopefully be some ratting this year bud . Quote Link to post
