Of course it can be done. But as you say, there is nothing on here to warrant it. Its not national security issues. From what Charts has posted it all seems a bit Waltish. I would think that if the site owners were alerted to illegal activity they would cooperate as you would expect them to. But on the face of it, the person reporting this could quite easily be making stuff up. Wouldn't be the first time.

Just imagine if the big brother theories were true; the authorities would have to monitor every site from mums net to pigeon watch for signs of illegal activity. It couldn't be done. They will intervene if something is brought to their attention. Like a stolen dog.

We’re you a peeler or something this is 2022 not 1872 everything you and I write on here or any other site is there for ever and if we do anything serious enough it will all be dug up and used

To be fair anybody stupid enough to post shit like that on Facebook deserves to get caught ………

And yet teenagers are getting stabbed to death in a city where your picture gets taken 400 times a day and they can’t find who is doing it !……amazing huh !

I’d say anybody writing about illegal antics no matter the collective thought on it wants their f***ing head scratched with a rake .

There's been lots of allegations over the years around personal messages. Nobody on here can read anyone's messages without being given access to those messages from the person who sent them,

I can remember someone threatening this an that over someone reading his messages without his permission and the information contained being used on another site. Turned out it was an ex mate who he had given access to his account to a few years before.

Incorrect.

I've told this story in the past; I was a moderator on another site and had a falling out with the owners.

I was told by a member that I was being slagged off and lied about, so I asked a colleague of my late son if he could get me access to the site without it being known.

He had me on in a matter of minutes, and I was reading not only posts, but PM's.

I had great fun confronting them with what they had written.....it was driving them mad thinking they had a spy in their midst, blaming each other and fighting like rats in a sack ! ?

The site closed down not long after. Perhaps it wasn't as secure as here, but as I've said, no site on the internet is totally secure ?

Cheers.

Thing is the authorities have to get the information legally. So they couldn't and wouldn't hack into the system. They couldn't use the information in the way you described in the dog theft scenario.

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to legitimately  access personal data.

I can elaborate on that somewhat,

Again a few years ago there was a thing on here about IP addresses, Now if Say the Police did view something on this site and they wanted to know who the Poster of that was. They would have to go before a magistrate and explain why they need to know this, If that magistrate aggreged then they would issue a warrant for that information to be obtained.

To do this they would need to contact the site owner, who would need to supply the Date ,Time and IP address that that post was made using.

They would then have to identify the Internet Service Provider that the iP address belonged to,

Approach that ISP for the name and address for the account that was using that IP on that day and that time.

Then they would still need to prove who was using that IP at the time the post was made.

Don’t you remember there used to a map on this site what showed where members where ?

Not that i have ever seen, The was and still is a box that shows IP addresses. Back then if your ISP was say BT even if you tracked the IP it would just say London, If i click on an IP now. And say its 3 mobile network, i will see a list of members who have used that IP whilst on 3 mobile that could be dozens,

No I’m sure it was a rough location of where you was, not sure how it worked but it deffo did, was more on the for sales ads but was also on home page at one point

I've seen them on forums where the member's location was displayed on a map. But it was their stated location, not the actual one. If I log onto a retail website and it zeroes in on my position to locate the nearest store it could be anywhere within 200 kilometres. There is no logic to it.

I had £200,000 worth of gear nicked off site 2 weeks ago, my fleet management team, sent the tracker details from the stolen vehicle to the police within 24 hours showing everywhere the van went after leaving the site before it was dumped all I got was a fckn crime number, no copper gives a fck about a nicked dog

I don't know the ins and outs obviously and I can understand your frustration. There might be thjngs going on behind the scenes that you aren't aware of. I used to get good criminal info about that sort of thing. I would go and see somebody in that line of investigation who I could trust. Tell them everything except the source and leave it with them. Sometimes I wouldn't hear anything for months, over a year in a drug importation inquiry, but when the job dropped they would always let me know.

Best of luck.

Okay saying that till they sat opposite you with a portfolio of posts you’ve made, luckily we ain’t planning murders or coups on here, just the odd illegal day out coursing an digging ?‍♂️?

If i remember correctly the case your on about, when the bloke got raided he was still logged into his account on here. Surely if anyone is worried about what they send in messages then the simple answer is don't send them.

Think you would be rather surprised how much time and effort plod are willing to waste on a few old divs chasing rabbits, it warrants helicopters and drones, it’s much more PC than looking for a Blackman that’s just stabbed someone ?
