Few years ago now when I still lived in England mate, but there was a few lads on the tippers who turned it in because they got fed up with it…..was basically driving out of London sites, getting a tug at the checkpoint they used to have on the lights by the witches hat at Dagenham and copping fines for any stupid thing that could be found……came straight out their own pocket and bang, weeks wages or a good chunk of it down the khazi.

May be different now with driver shortages, firms may cover all that ? 
 

But VOSA is self funding so they have to keep nicking people.

Spot on Wilf exactly where I used to get a pull I used to say to myself if I can get past Dagenham I’m home and dry back to my depot at Leigh on Sea until one day a police car pulled in front of me flashing follow me in the back of the motor,  they then ran me into Purfleet and pulled me apart I would never go back to it, I was quite handy on the grab lorry and the amount of PJs which were thrown my way was unreal but nah not worth the hassle.

I only used to run a Luton van as my own motor and hire all my trucks in as and when, got a tug in my van at Tilbury docks and this f***ing idiot copper says “Where’s your driver records!” 
Now I’m a bit baffled by the question as it’s only a 3.5 ton Luton so I say “Mate, it’s a Luton van ?”

”Nah, you need driver records” says Columbo !

”No mate, I don’t”

So this f***ing nonsense went on for 20 minutes until another of the 40 odd coppers they had standing around rinsing people for FP fines came over.

Columbo says “This ones got no driver records”…….”He don’t need them, it’s a van” says matey !

Yeah, f***ing told you that ! 
 

I wound up I used to do as much as I could at night mate, better to get round London and none of these type of pricks to deal with.

Hi! No it's doing very well, I'm just looking to cover myself for the future and to be honest iv allways wanted to do a bit of driving in a hgv as it's allways interested me and I wanted to experience it.

If you have other incomes, it is still worth getting the ticket and just doing some agency work in the lorry, you,ll get a premium wage and pick and choose when you work, you will also start making a few contacts you could fall back on in the future, an uncle of mine used to drive up to London 2 nights a week and pick up the news papers earned enough not to do anything else for the other 5 days a week, good luck

I was tempted to do my hgv. Local livestock haulier desperate for a driver couple days a week to help out. Might happen one day. Mates got a new lorry he don’t even have to be pulled to have his hours checked they down load it as he’s driving down the motorway. Can’t run bent anymore.

I did a few hours in a class 2 totally different mentality driving. Blocking 2 lanes coming up to a roundabout and using the whole roundabout was a shock. Forwards planning is a big thing. I respect hgv drivers a lot now. A lot of car drivers are out for themselves, no using the correct lane or indicating off roundabouts when you could have gone is annoying.

I got my class two and was doing multi drop.... fckin horrendous delivering furniture and stuff, hated it. Then the eastern Europeans came and the arse dropped out the wages. Think the money has gone up again now. 

Personally I think it's easier than driving a car, your up high and can dominate the road. Driven through London and found it easier than taking a car through.

Wouldn't want to do it again though
