jok 3,388
Same as you Micky. The head on my 1954 Seddon was cracked and had to be stitched. I had to unstitch my wallet on that one. Good luck Wolfi. I suspect you need it. Jok.

Bush Rummager 4,767
I think you're supposed to use Iron powder rods for cast. I've welded loads of stuff up using mig for my keeper mate who's always breaking bits on his tractor and things he pulls with it. Heating the parts up before welding helps. Warning though.. it sounds shit and looks shit!! Only hope is to tart it up after with a grinder assuming you can get to it!! All the best!!...
smithie 2,444
I have welded cast fires that have cracked. I usually drill a hole each end of the crack to stop it spreading then heat with oxy bottles before mig welding.. You can buy cast rods but socks called it for me...
chartpolski 25,276
When welding cracked cast casings we would preheat in an oven, weld using cast iron rods, then back in the oven and allow to cool down gradually to avoid cracking. This was many years ago, though. Methods and equipment have probably improved considerably Cheers.
