jigsaw 11,899
For the British lads, any noticeable downturn on the economy/work?I was told by a lad it's slowing down on the building line over there....any truth in that? It's still tipping away here but not as ferocious as it was, still work to be got but not in the abundance of a few months ago....
fireman 10,994
The bread and butter of the building firm i work for is social housing and insurance stuff, but we've taken on more big projects like total knock down and rebuilds than they have for a while. Housing estates being built fecking every where in south Norfolk or so it seems to me so this way it seems full on still..

Greyman 28,945
New housing projects still popping up on a weekly basis in Gloucestershire at the moment, and my boy is still flat out on the ground work so I think we are more in the process of talking ourselves into a reception than actually having one, I,m in the process of sticking my house on the market the estate agent still thinks it will sell within 3months as the mortgage rates are still cheaper than rent, hope he’s right
Daniel cain 46,193
No sign of slowing down for myself and the lads I work for

DIDO.1 22,845
Less cash about. Not sure if this is a slow down or just people getting out of the habit of using it. If I do a job local or for someone I half know I've always said 'just call it £20' or 'buy us a drink'..... fckin people these days ask if they can transfer it or ask if I take Apple pay ( whatever the fck that is). It's twenty quid FFS , go to the cash machine!!

Born Hunter 17,812
On a similar note, I’ve just remortgaged…. Jesus Christ! I predict a housing crisis as many folks can’t manage the hike.

I just managed to fix mine for the next 5 years but it was getting sketchy as rates seemed to be rising daily I only owe a small one so when house is sold will pay it off and hopefully have enough to buy another house in a year or so when the arse falls out the market

My fixed rate went from 1.79% to 5.39%! Wish I had fixed for ten years when I took that 1.79%!
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
I’d say we are busier here in Wilts than we’ve been for 3 years .Just got plans for 4 more extensions including one that went back to tender because of price hikes . Getting work is the easy bit ,it’s keeping pace with the material increases that’s the problem . Timber has just gone up again as well as concrete blocks and bricks .Aggregate seems stable but how much longer with fuel creeping up I don’t know .I used to honour quotes for 3 months price wise but nowadays it’s 1 month so if a customer confirms now ,they need to have everything in position for a start by end of month or it’s another 4 % on the job . Labour seems to have topped out here at 250-300 a day for trades with unskilled at 150 which is barmy when you think a tradesman was on that 3 years Trades seems to be minimum lead time of 4 weeks booking at moment . Ive a pair of ally bifolds on order for a job that had a lead time of 27 weeks ,almost up .Prior planning prevents piss poor performance rings true for smooth cash flow . Personally can’t see a downturn any time soon here .
Qbgrey 4,143
My phone phone don’t ring as much as before, I think people are panicking a bit, about extending thier homes . the Land Rover dealers said to me they are flat out with orders and my mate who sells Toyotas said some people are backing out of a new car they ordered. We will talk ourselves into a recession again I reckon. As long as beers under a £10 a pint were be ok.
