Many years ago, a pal of mine had a racing Greyhound that wasn't doing the business, so some of the "old hands " told him to run it on a hare to "gee it up".

we slipped it on a hare, they went through a barbed wire fence......the greyhounds back opened up like a sleeping bag zip, it broke its tail and broke a hock.....it didn't leave the field.

the last thing i’d do is slip a pure grey even one that’s been on the land a lot near any wire or open land to a dykes etc your asking for trouble nice tight hedgerows then i would

Any well bred greyhound sapling isn't getting slipped on nothing but a lure, I've been around greyhound men for over 35 years and slipping a young inexperienced dog on a hare never ever happens, and only a fool would think of doing so.

I'm talking over 50 years ago, we were young and inexperienced, we fell for the talk of the old hands.....you live and learn.... I can only talk of genuine experiences.....such is life

few i know have slipped on hare back when we had a track 50 year ago they would all be on the aerodromes slipping on hares betting 

we agree on one thing only a fool would think of using such a useless type on hares no offence fens

Seen similar happen a nice little blue bitch that was slipped on a rabbit only she opened up both her legs from her wrists to here shoulders.

I've seen a few lads do some weird and crazy shit to try and get them switched on but if your having to try anything like that then it's already over as I'm sure you already know.

My bitch knocked a few over in the day, would kill them on the lamp without much fuss, was perfect round barbed wire and clear 5 bar gates and push through cover on the scent of a fox. This was all on small rough fields.

I still know a lad from the 60's who had a whippet that wouldn't chase, so he put a couple of guinea pigs in an onion bag, and attached it to the rag for the bitch to run. 

It worked, the bitch became top class , but he was barred from the track !

Noooo I don't think a good greyhound man would give a pup a run at hare mate there's other way to bring a pup on if u think you have a good pup you rap it up in cotton wool as to speak and there is greyhounds that do make good dogs in the fields I have had a few myself over the years takeing fox hare rabbits But they our like hens teeth to be honest
