I've had snapping turtles , red rear sliders and stink pots and if you have room to have something like a kiddy pool and make a bio filter along with a sunning rock they can be pretty enjoyable but honestly I feel anything like a little 20gal fish tank is just not very good. Also the small stuff end up stinking to high heaven without a really good filter If he wants a reptile that easy to take care of leopard gecko's are a good choice. jigsaw 11,863 Posted October 30, 2022 Report Share Posted October 30, 2022 (edited) We have two tanks on the go,ones a shrimp /guppy tank,the other is a community tank,lots of different types,we have blue Moscow guppy's and tiger barbs,...if I was starting again ,I'd avoid the guppy's,they breed like mad,I emptied the shrimp tank (or so I thought) and I missed 4 guppy's...we now have near 60/70 again...we have assassin snails in that tank...the secret to a healthy tank is set it up first,get the water parameters correct,get a few plants,decent rocks and create structure with hidey holes for fish to escape ,do your research,social fish that don't need over the top attention..then add your choice of fish later ...,then just regular water change ,...the fighting fish are more suited to smaller tanks,they get burnt out fast if they swim around a lot, carrying those exaggerated fins,but are spectacular to view Edited October 30, 2022 by jigsaw 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
