Another captain Mainwaring rant. Protective head gear in cricket came about when the West Indians started to bowl yorkers aimed at batsmen's heads to unsettle them. People were injured.  Not cricket gentlemen!

They should have also brought in a rule that any ball judged to be aimed at an opponent,  instead of the wicket, would result in the bowler being  banned for the rest of the series.

There you go. That was before my time. I thought we were above such tactics.lol .Still, balls delivered at head height was an escalation of bodyline bowling. But fair point mate.

There was a really enjoyable TV series about the bodyline test matches, which was part fiction part fact, it was on TV when i was about 13 years old. It was very interesting!

Brian Close! Bloody hell, that's rattled my memory. I bet Fred Trueman exacted revenge on whoever bowled those rib breakers at Close.

It was the Windies in 1976 and Trueman had retired by then. I'm sure Sir Geoffrey would have bored them to death though.

I remember the country being united against the tactics of bouncers obviously aimed at head level. It was big news all over the papers and BBC news.

But the players got on with it. Now its big BBC news because  a group of players called other players names. Facks sake lads. Play up and man up!

I don’t need to convince you mate, I just don’t agree.

Theres moral codes in all walks of life, they ain’t always shared by everyone but they do exist, why should football be any different ? ?

Likewise,i just dont agree....from rolling around trying to get opponents sent off to diving its all cheating and is anything but moral.....we remember it because its so rare.
