inan 841
ok so after a great weekend ferreting (first time ive had and used my ferrets) im going awqay again for 7 weeks and wont be back until mid march.A friend of mine says by then i wont be able to use my ferrets again until autumn time??how come It,s allways been the accepted practice to pack up around the end of Feb ,if you are pugging purely for sport,,having said that ,Magwitch and I have been bolting bunnies in milk ,and half grown bolters since Jan the 1st,not ideal ,but in the orchards we are ferreting they are causing thousands of £s of damage to young trees, and if we dont do the job virually all year round, the farmer will soon get someone else in.The trouble with summertime pugging ,is the cover is thicker and the risk of a lie up is greater. We will shoot a lot more from my 4x4,but where ferreting is possible ,the farmer will expect us to do it.The climate change has meant that bunnies are breeding all year round ,and half of our catch seem to be in kindle, this plus the fact that we dont get the hard frosts to kill of the undergrowth means ,it can be a pain setting out the longnets, still them,s the breaks.Inan. ShaggyRS6 0
I intend to be doing it all year if I can. I work mainly on Orchards where the farmer's trees are being destroyed. Quote Link to post
