Not as good as at should’ve been

So was up and away for 5am yesterday for a day ferreting, had packed the car the day before so just the piece and ferrets to load in the morning, Jess is in season and the lad who’s permission it was didn’t want his recently acquired dog (Jess’s brother) to be put off as he had done nothing but sit in a kennel till he got him so I left her behind. Anyway there was 4 of us 10 ferrets and 2 dogs, the sire and the brother to mine. On the drive down I felt something brush past my feet, big mick my hob had gotten out and was running about the car, pulled over and got him packed away to notice the big b*****d had ate the chicken off my piece on the back seat!! (See photo). Anyway Got to the bottom bit of the permission and the cover was still very heavy, we could hear the booming of shotguns in the distance but never thought anything of it. We split up and I lost the first 2 rabbits that came out a hole 4 foot up a tree, this summed the day up, by the time we met up we had 10 rabbits and had lost 11 due to unnetted holes or wee twigs etc getting caught in them, further up we were met by the folk with the shotguns who were also ferreting the same land we done another couple of warrens that were more open in the fields and ended the day with 18 accounted for and I recon that again plus a couple missed. again f**k knows why they are upside down and I cannot for love nor money fix it!!

Still a good day out but u need a ferret proof sandwich box

Sounds a good day out to me ,you need a better ferret box ,one they not escape from   

I got all my kit sorted for going out today but the monsoon weather put a end to that so I'll get out with the lamp tonight for couple hours ,

I couldn’t find the wee clips for the latch so used clothes peg springs thinking that would do…

Used to go ferreting with a old fella who just let ferrets run about in back of the van along with 2,3 lurchers and he used a old army bag with air vents to carry them about in .

does the landowner give permission to few people then?  like with other blokes with shotguns ?  some landowners are bit picky who they let on there ground! .

Apparently every man and there dog has permission on this land, someone shot 145 through the week and someone ferreted 50+ off it last weekend
