That’s a top result,I will have a look at that next time I am in London, just goes to show what’s undiscovered under our feet at times.

You found any pilgrim bottles yet ? Used to find them a lot when I was going out ,I might start back up but I find winter best time to detect as finds get closer to surface in cold weather but of course you will find in all weather but colder the better .

I would class myself as a bit of a novice still so chuffed with that little Roman coin. Was thought until recently that the Romans never got down this far but a Villa was found about 5 miles from me. Thing is I ferret that ground but he don't want any body digging holes in the paddocks.

Not found a pilgrim bottle and not much chance of any Viking stuff as they weren't very active in the South West. To be honest I'm happy if I find the odd coin wish a few more had more detail on them but it's bit like fishing you never know what going to crop up.

I'm an old f****r now so helps keep me fit and another excuse to wandering the fields Lol.

First Roman coin I found was when I was a kid walking across a ploughed field in Leicestershire looking for clay pipes while me brother was detecting, and I run over chuffed to bits with me find thinking it must be worth millions as it Roman ,he told me your holding a coin a Roman soldier carried and your the only one to hold it in hundreds of years and I was over the moon and that's what detecting is all about you never know what your going to find .

I think you will find Roman stuff all over England right up to the Scottish borders

it's a great hobby and a good way to get out and get away from everyday stress and your finding some good bits

I remember walking across a potato field as a kid following the plough and picking the taties,a large amount of oyster shells and some pottery shards came up,didn’t understand the significance back then, but in later years I sometimes wondered what else lies beneath that field.

Used to do fair bit of field walking when had a jack Russel she would be in the hedges and I would look for Flints. I would pick up a flint that had been worked and wonder what it was for and what the person was like maybe 4000 years ago.

Found this one the other day once you got your eye in you can't help seeing them. It's like a scraper but has that bit sticking out about the size of your little finger nail. Probably for making a grove in wood I suppose, interesting what is in the ground.

Sent photos of that Denarius to the Finds people and the other Roman coin they got back quite interested as Roman coins are rare in Devon apparently.

Was a Denarius for Claudius AD 46-47.

just hearing on the news ..the govt is going to change the laws on detectoring finds....really tightening stuff up....doing it under the guise of "culturey significant".....not value / age / type of metal anymore......so any finds like harness bells...harness adornments....cloke clasps ....etc and age of finds reduced to 200 years from 300 years....now classed as treasure trove and cannot be held in collection's and have to be offered for purchase to musems etc,

yet more control and another turn of the screw

I wonder if any metal detectorist ever found your nipple ring that you lost while you were out dogging that time in 1974 ?.

Here is some of the junk (as Wifey calls it) etc I've found over about 18 month since I've been doing Metal detecting. Still no Hammered coin.

Of course Buttons.

That not counting the Horse shoes now in the hedge or hanging on the barbed wire. Not forgetting Lead loads of bits of lead and bloody square nails which I'm getting better at avoiding.

People are commenting now to me about finding the horse shoes tucked in the hedge and under trees etc.
