I wonder if any metal detectorist ever found your nipple ring that you lost while you were out dogging that time in 1974 ?.

red the National detector magazine last month...and in the centre spread there was an important article about a nationally significant find of bronze ginger mashers....and 3 silver gilt hamster cages found in the Tipton area...

They'll have belonged to my great great great great grandfather.

I come from a very long line of ginger smugglers and hamster breeders .

The ginger would make its way from the Norfolk broads , to Tipton,  via the canal network.  Once it reached Tipton,  teams of ginger workers would use lathes to turn ginger plugs of all sizes . Most of the ginger plugs were taken back to Norfolk for resale , but Wales also had a lively ginger Market.

On a more serious note. I bought my good lady a metal detector a couple of years ago , but she still hasn't gotten around to using it.

That front shoe has got to be medieval I reckon.

I found a strange engraved piece of bronze. The flo reckoned it was a 13th century skillet handle, even showed me a photo of a complete one. Not a clue where it is now. It's amazing some of the pieces of really ancient stuff you find that have no real value so just get mixed in with your other 'junk'

No idea of age of horse shoes mate I left the big one hanging on the wire by the gate. Thought someone might like it. Next time I went it was place at the foot of the Beech tree, kinda liked it there so put another there, might put a few more there.

Found this heel plate this week mate, Wifey likes it so it will end up in the garden somewhere.

That not counting the Horse shoes now in the hedge or hanging on the barbed wire. Not forgetting Lead loads of bits of lead and bloody square nails which I'm getting better at avoiding.

People are commenting now to me about finding the horse shoes tucked in the hedge and under trees etc.

First Roman coin I found was when I was a kid walking across a ploughed field in Leicestershire looking for clay pipes while me brother was detecting, and I run over chuffed to bits with me find thinking it must be worth millions as it Roman ,he told me your holding a coin a Roman soldier carried and your the only one to hold it in hundreds of years and I was over the moon and that's what detecting is all about you never know what your going to find .

I think you will find Roman stuff all over England right up to the Scottish borders

it's a great hobby and a good way to get out and get away from everyday stress and your finding some good bits

When the M69 was being built my old man worked on the Hinckley to Leicester stretch, One weekend i was at work with him and happened to be following one of the scrappers, I picked up dozens of Roman coins that day, No idea what happened to them though, Lol.
