Seen a few pheasants cocked up in the nearby council owned wood though with the dry leafs the noise walking on them they soon flushed also heard quite a few owls this morning as well. What head torch do you use mate. I use one of the olight torches' on a headband that's not bad and comfortable to wear. Not sure which model , but it’s a Fenix. Throws a good beam up to 20 yards . Been out 3 times and just not seeing the woodies roosting in this spot like they was past couple of seasons . Mite look at the olight as I think this is on its way out. I am well happy with this small olight torch and I believe you can get powerfuller one's than the one I have it's got a few different settings on it one that's a red light and when it gets light I just take it off and put it in my pocket. Had a few cheaper headtorches over the years non as good as the olight.

Leo Sayer 2,733
Nipped out , only ad 3 shots 2 woodys and 1 Maggie, all birds was very high so was pleased dropped a woody. Conditions not ideal , still foggy and drizzle which cut the beam down considerably. But I ad been struggling with my head torch. But ordered 2 new batteries from fenix only £14 each so gave it a new lease of life and plenty of power with 2 batteries with me . What spoiled my mooch was unfortunately I wasn’t the only one out. The fly tippers was as well. Utterly disgusting waste of space they are. Absolutely makes me boiling it does !!! Any way the scout amd 9.5 steels earning there keep Edited December 28, 2024 by Leo Sayer 6

Leo Sayer 2,733
Had a mooch in the dark and snow , no head torch needed as just the silhouette was enough. Actually hit 2 woodys and a nest raider but didn’t drop any of them . I know not good but it happens. The sleet was blowing in my face and eyes and I was struggling aiming, still no excuse. But what a lovely mooch, me the dog and nature and the whole world to myself. Just being out , watching a fox work a hedgerow . Didn’t want to go home . Was gonna nip to another spot , little keepered one with a few long tails on but daylight beat me. Just great being out and about in the snow , even tho the weather was fowl . tatsblisters 10,090
Been for a mooch myself in this weather though never even had the catty out of my pocket. Seen a few hare tracks and two sets of fox prints together obviously a dog and a vixen pairing a few pigeons and a couple of pheasants flushed off the roost before I even got near them. It felt earie in the big wood i walk around with just the sound of the odd twany owl and a dead branch crashing to the floor now and then. It always feels different walking about in fresh settled snow when there is no other human footprints at 5 in the morning. 1
gnipper 6,509
Are you lads using torches to shoot with or just find what you dropped? Switch a torch on in most of the woods I've been in and not much hangs around for a shot.

Tbh mate I mostly just use mine when it's dark with the low light setting when walking through the woods just before it gets ligh as these days my eyesight isn't what it used to be and I have gone arse over tit a few times when it's dark i don't use mine for shooting quarry with bar the odd target practice in the dark with it. I agree that a light can spook stuff then again i have seen a light shone on especially early season pheasants and they have just sat there oblivious to the light.
