Hay creats too much heat and sweats
And when that happens the hay will become infested with mites and you really dont want that to happen

but some times the hay already has a lot of mites in it thats why i dont use it.

Just a quickie,

Where should I locate the toilet. And what should I use?

Oooh and another question. how much hay in its bedroom. I have filled it up half way. too much?

Lots of good replies, I'd just like to mention that hay is warmer than straw, and if too warm, they can get pneumonia type chest problems . I use straw for bedding and they pull out what they don't want. Edd Cook beds his on just shavings, and claims that ferrets have more problems keeping cool than keeping warm, I agree, I had labrador dogs in kennels outside with no bedding and they were fine. The winter coat on a ferret will keep it warm as long as it's out of draughts. NB don't keep just one, they need company, and someone to cuddle up to on chilly nights. I'd ask Kay or Stubby if you have any probs and you won't go far wrong.

I think the best kind of bedding now i have thought about it logically is a hammock , its suspended off the floor & allows the air to circulate , i have used allsorts of bedding in a hutch type set up but found with everything i used that was placed on the floor got damp in the winter & i also noticed mold spots on the inside of the sleeping area or inside the bedding box when i have used them, in the years past when its been baking hot i have removed all bedding & just used a layer of shavings to just coat the bottom of the floor :)
