Ken's Deputy 4,460
Or, my new favourite; 'What Would Jordan Peterson Say?' I actually just threw Jesus in there hoping to grab any passing 'Jesus People', or what ever. " The Madonna with Saint Giovannino ". What The Fukk is going on there? Just, randomly, happened across it on the chube, again. Nope. No good. I stopped, there. Sat here, for a good five minutes and more, wringing my mind out. Trying to find some angle on it. Why did he paint that in there? WTF Is it supposed to represent? Anyone, on here, ever heard anything worth repeating about it? @Born Hunter? Your sort chat about this shit, at tea break? (Kudos to everyone who manages Not to just slap up the passée meme )

After much contemplation, engagement with my learned peers, and research in the 'forbidden isles' of the scholarly library, I'm firmly of the opinion that the UFO in the painting is in fact............... a smudge.

(Kudos to everyone who manages Not to just slap up the passée meme ) Well, here's my take on it , and it's purely conjecture I think the object in question could be "the star in the east" being obscured by a cloud, judging by what appears to be rays emanating from it. It could be the artist signaling his disbelieve or doubt in the divinity of Christ. A lot of renaissance art has hidden meanings. The man with the dog looking up at the object could be one of the shepherds that often appear in madonna and child paintings, possibly also appearing doubtful as he is ignoring the main characters. Cheers.
Jonjon79 13,358
What would Jesus do? Probably abandon it all as a bad job and go start again, somewhere out of sight of the JWST.
Ken's Deputy 4,460
Born; Guys working at That level don't make smudges Charts; I lay awake, thinking about this one, last night. I too considered the whole star thing. I just can't make it fit though. It's far too 'detailed' looking. I mean, what sort of 'stretch of the imagination' does it take to turn that 'Sputnik on Steroids' looking thing into a " Star "? 'Hidden meaning' may be one thing. But, this is a bit more 'In ye face', isn't it? Within the constraints of the work. I mean; The guy's not Rigby. It's not like he's Known for sneaking a little man and Dog into his works, is it? Would a shepherd not have at least a token sheep with him? Maybe it's Phil Lloyd? He seems about old enough ... I personally think they were put there simply as a conduit for our own observation of the Object. A kind of fail safe. Visual stage whisper. Like; 'Hey! Look! WTF?!' Can't see this guy's an early forerunner of Monty Python either. Juxtaposing the absurd amongst the mundane. Why would he do that? 'Hidden Meaning'? Well, it's certainly managed to Remain hidden! Just as half arsed as, I guess, anything can be around this? But, I've started wondering if it's not his way of 'Getting something out there'. Floating an idea. No internet, in those days. No channel 4 news. If a man had been So struck by something he'd seen, he wanted to ask the widest possible audience: " WTF do ye make of This?! " Perhaps, as an artist, this would be his best shot? Make sense? If so? Fukking worked, didn't it? Because, all these hundreds of years later, people are still looking at it and going: Jonjon; What's the " JWST "? My filter's due here, any minute. Then I'll have something better to occupy my mind!

Neobliviscaris1776 1,998
If it was intentionally put there it could be the image of an insect. Insects are often depicted in churches around the world especially in Rome and the Vatican to represent the belief of 'reincarnation.' Although 'reincarnation' is not a Christian belief, the Roman Catholic church viewed itself as a world ruler and always adopted the beliefs and practices of previous world powers, especially Egypt. The Egyptians were the first documented believers in reincarnation. They witnessed the emergence of life come from dung balls ie young dung beetles emerge from the dung balls. When infact, as we know now, it was the beetles laying their eggs in balls of dung and moving them as they do. Not magic, not reincarnation, just nature following its course
