maxx fennig 0
hello all , hope your all well . just thought i'd introduce myself . firstly , i don't , as yet , have an air rifle , a situation i'm hoping to remedy within the next month or two . my first experience with guns was when i was about 10 years old . i have been interested in guns for as long as i can remember so when a good friend of my father offered to take me to a firing range i jumped at the opportunity . oddly enough , the first gun i ever fired was a .357 magnum which was quite an introduction ! that day i also fired a .22 rimfire rifle and a .45 automatic ( just the one round ! ) . needless to say , i was hooked . when i was 11 , i joined the air training corps ( air cadets ) and during my time with them i got to use a lee enfield .303 . we did all kinds of outdoor activities including abseiling , rock climbing , basic fieldcraft etc. and i developed a taste for the outdoor life . then my parents got divorced and i had to move from west wales to cardiff in south wales . that took a lot of adjusting to having moved from a rural area to the city . there was little opportunity for any outdoor activity so , when i was about 14 , i joined the local army cadets . at that point in my life i was going to join the army , so army cadets seemed the logical choice . when i was 17 i took the army entrance test and medical exam and passed . i went to the selection centre at sutton coldfield and passed that . i then had to wait for a place to become available for training . while i was waiting , i joined the territorial army . i figured it would give me experience of army life and would help to keep me fit at the same time . i also got experience with the L1A1 S.L.R. , G.P.M.G. , and the sterling S.M.G. which i can tell you was great fun . long story short , whilst i was training in the brecon beacons , i had an accident which severely damaged my knees . so my army career was over before it had begun . after that i sort of lost interest and fell into the whole 9 to 5 thing , got married , had 3 beautiful kids etc . now , at the tender age of 40 , i have suddenly felt the call of the wild , so to speak . i have quit smoking so i can save money for my kit and this year i plan to aquire all the necessary kit to start getting back into things . the biggest surprise for me has been how advanced air guns are now . the biggest downer for me has been all the pointless , ineffective laws that have been passed to keep us all " safe " from the terrible guns . guns don't kill - people kill . it may be old but it doesn't make it any the less true . if someone wants to kill someone and they don't have access to guns , they'll use a knife or a large lump of wood or a house brick - you get the picture . the bottom line is , with the law as it is , the people more likely to hurt people with guns will just obtain them illegally while the people who can't get guns are left defenceless against attack from those who aquire them illegally ok , i guess you get the idea . anyway , nice to meet you all and thanks for taking the time to read this . Geoff.C 0
Hi maxx, welcome to the forum. There are some good guys on here, and plenty of help and advice to be had. Take your time choosing a air rifle, you are right about how advanced some of them are. B####y expensive too! Some though,in my opinion, have developed for the hunter field shooting competitions, and are recoilless, heavy weight shooting machines not suitable for walking round fields all day. There is a lot to be said for a simple, reliable springer which just goes on and on,and you don't need a bearer to carry it about. (Watch me get some flak now)!
