ianrob 2
I found this video and though the hype is not good, I'd like to try the trap, can you get them over here. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_IrxSzjqUPw&NR=1 Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,694
What a load of crap, do you get a jcb to dig the crater to put them in aswell, ,Ian, even if they came into the country they would have to be approved by DEFRA for use against moles. Regards MT. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Ian, Cinch traps have been around in various guises in the US for a while now. I have not seen them for sale over here yet. I think the reason for their lack of success is obvious - look at the size of that hole he had to dig . . . . . . I can just see the Pester's laughing at the thought of their customer's faces as they dig a foot round hole in the middle of their putting green One question I have, and DS might know this if no-one else does, is do mole traps have to be DEFRA approved for use in the UK, as most 'vermin traps' do (with the exception of those for rats and mice)? In which case I doubt any self respecting DEFRA officer would even consider passing such a monstrosity as this for use on our moles. OTC Quote Link to post

No, mate. They don't ~ strictly. Check the wording of the Approval Orders and it mentions Mole Traps along with Rat and Mouse. It's worded something like " Types of traps ... Commonly used to trap them (moles) in their underground burrows ". Those are allowed. Room for ambiguity and some poor b*stard beeing hauled through a british court of law by Death Wish's rich new friends, the arsepca? Believe it. But what else would ye expect from such a bunch of wankers? Either of them. Quote Link to post

OTC As far as i am aware OTC...mole traps are classed the same as small ground vermin traps. The pest act 1954 section 8 does not apply, as these are made an exception in the Small Ground Vermin Trap Order 1958.....unless some one knows otherwise. Rolfe. Quote Link to post

Regards MT. I obviously take your point, and thanks. It just occured to me that in my mole catching days, often in deep runs I'd get traps filled with soil time and time again. This trap with so little obstruction in the run, I thought might be worth a try, especially if it was a run in which you knew the direction to expect the mole from. Then a six inch square hole would do. Quote Link to post

OTC I hadn't envisaged using them by the dozen, more as something to experiment with when a mole was proving difficult. Also it is often possible to know from which end a mole would approach, thus making it possible to use only one trap. A six inch or less hole would do. There is so little of the trap to alert the mole, it might make a mistake. I've had a mole filling Duffus traps for a fortnight before I caught it on a wet morning, in fact caught three within an hour. I would only like to have another tool to try. Quote Link to post

ianrob 2
One hell of a pitfall trap id say Looks like I've fallen into a pit too mate, the stick I'm getting, as I said to everyone, I just fancied trying one of these on some of the more difficult moles. Perhaps I'm the only one but i seem to get odd moles that are hard to catch. I thought one of these would be another tool to try. I should be talking in the past tense too as I don't catch moles to any great extent nowadays, just as a favour now and again. Quote Link to post
