I was last there on Wednesday afternoon with the intention of going up yesterday but with the weather been so bad I thought I’d let them stay under cover, when we got there this morning it was clear to see they had spent the day around the pens, every feeder was empty in both pens and they were hungry, this is something I really like to see, I’ve started hand feeding wheat in a few spots just to try and keep them where I want them for the next couple of weeks. Our first day is 6 weeks today so if the pheasant gods look favourably on me they should be a few about, another thing I was pleased to see was the amount of birds around the forestry pen, we only put 200 in there this year ( half of what normally goes in ) and I’ve had the usual problems with dog walkers but they seem to have come back in, one thing that’s bothering me is the forestry pen feeds the piggeries drives and with there only been half the amount I think that them drives might be a bit light this season, but we’ll see what comes into them over the coming weeks I'm amazed you let Andy drive that! Or are you hoping he discovers that dyke you tumbled in?? 1 Quote Link to post

My mate is using them and really likes them. Quote Link to post

They buggered my springs last year. Have couple this year with plastic trays & couple of metal ones full of holes... where I have badgers I just put crates around mine, it keeps the deer off them as well Quote Link to post

I went to see my mate at the gun shop on my way back from the shoot and he said they are have a problem getting sako gear and to be fair didn’t have much to choose from in .243 BT so I went for Norma 75gn and federal 70gn so I’ll see what these are like one night this week when I take it out to zero it Quote Link to post
Stavross 15,316
So as the weather has changed and we are heading fast into autumn the birds are really hitting the feed and are moving throughout the shoot, I’ve started hand feeding wheat on a few rides and under a couple holly bushes that they seem to like hanging around every season, mainly to keep them entertained and to stop them wandering to far from the pens and the centre of the shoot, I’ve got about 3 weeks worth of pellet left so another week to 10 days and I’ll start to introduce some wheat into the feeders, no doubt they will do what they always do and flick the wheat out to get at the pellet, also now the weather has changed I’m starting to see quite a few adult birds coming into the feeders, so maybe a few more for the guns to have a go at Edited October 3, 2022 by Stavross 3 Quote Link to post
ianm 2,594
I have used both of those in the past. I would think your Tikka would like the Norma. I used federal premium 40grn in a 223 i had and it liked them but at £29 a box eleven years ago it ought to like them. 1 Quote Link to post

The lad I know in the shop said he’s been using the Norma and said they are good and he has the same rifle as me, they want to be at 2 quid a go, the federal were a little cheaper at £33 a box Edited October 3, 2022 by Stavross 1 Quote Link to post
