shovel leaner 7,650
I’ve a few . I sometimes used to secure them to a drag , so as not to damage the run too much , but I now use earth anchors. There is nothing like seeing a problem fox bouncing around waiting for you . We have to use “ relax o lock “ type snares to just hold them , with a deer stop , and now the guidelines suggest that a break away link to avoid non target species like badgers . The one picture shows a run that foxes use to break into a poultry unit . I caught the farmers collie dog once I did tell him to keep it away, but he didn’t listen. Didn't know dragging snares was legal for you guys very interesting. I actually think what you guys have to use for snares would be considered a "cable restraint" for us. Non locking BAD's ( break aways device) deer stops. Tell me if you don't mind , what size cable do you use ? Do you prefer 7x7 or 1x19 twist ? Quote Link to post
Wolfdog91 6,875
O and what earth anchors do you guys have access to ? Quote Link to post

Damn , you just had me going to the workshop to take a picture . We use / I use 2mm diameter 7x7 aircraft cable . The earth anchors I use are for very hard stones ground that we have in my area . We drive them in with the bar shown and then pull them up to lock them in . I’ve never had one pull out. I don’t use drags anymore as I believe that it is not legal . Is this something you guys use ? With a lot of our practices, the industry tries to self regulate itself as much as possible, by introducing guidelines and “ codes of best practice. Hopefully people stick to them . Because if it goes to parliament and they get stuck into things it will probably get banned altogether which would be a disaster. As it is such a useful tool . I always say “ the snare is working while I’m in bed “ . Edited August 26, 2022 by shovel leaner 1 Quote Link to post

Loot gols will just go buy cheap scrap yard pipe cut it up with a grinder and with weld a nut or drill a hole for the cable. And I understand completely what you mean with the self regulation thing. Ha e to keep everyone in line. I know one of our state lost a lot of there trapping rights because some jack ass was setting 330 conibears (double spring 10"x10" opening ) on try land for some reason and killed a politicians dog and there was hell to pay. Think their just got the right to use non rubber jawed traps again this year 1 Quote Link to post

But then we are tight fisted in my part of the world , even worse than a Yorkshireman , and they squeak. 1 Quote Link to post
