Guest little_lloyd
Well,, Ive got this wee pond on the edge of my wee wood,,, Nice little pond attracts few duck but only really on the breeding season as a quiet gettaway for a bit of duck sex in the quiet i suppose. But i want to attract a few more ducks to it obivisly to add bonus game to the bag. Apart from regual feeding,, what kind of waterside plants would you plant around it that ducks like,, making it more attractive to duck? LL Quote Link to post
Aaron 3
Looks a little enclosed mate, try opening it up a wee bit, would encourage them to flight in better. Regards Aaron Quote Link to post
juckler123 707
I would try and cut them overhanging branches down as much as possible for a start. Then get your bullrush and iris no need to buy em they transplant really easily a few fringe lilly will sweeten the water some pondweed if theres none in there will encourage more insects for any young that hatch there. Guest little_lloyd
Well we got the chain - saw out yesterday as there is alot of work need done,, But managed to cut a few trees and brambles down today to give a more of a flushing and landing point for our ducks. Got a few water plants to plant and i will leave it for the summer then as a few ducks have moved from the lake to breed on it. Will get some pictures soon, ive been rather busy Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
this might sound like a silly question lloyd but how deep is that pond ? ducks will flight into a pond at dusk to feed but if the water is any more than a couple of feet deep then they wont be able to feed see ?? it doesnt take much to attract ducks to a pond during the winter months clear most of the tree's but try leaving some on the side of the provailing wind to provide some shelter and feed it regularly with wheat or corn bearing in mind that they can only feed in shallow water that might mean feeding the margins only and thats it really....you have yerself a flight pond ! good luck and keep us updated ! wildfowler-2007 0
i would not over do it with water plants as above make sure the water is not to deep most of all i would cut them tress down so duck's can flight right in keep some around the pond but the more open space the better regards Quote Link to post
Guest little_lloyd
The middle of that pond is very deep,, about six foot,, the banks are very shallow,, Still have work to do on it,, but it nice to see ducks using it already. Quote Link to post
