Tx 200, Pro-sport, Evo....... Tactical?????

Recommended Posts

Been toying with the idea of getting myself set up with a nice air rifle for a while now, bought a few mags ( new to this by the the way) and done plenty of searching on here. :)

Guns that stood out seemed to be the AA tx2oo HC, Pro-sport and Theoban evo............... then the BSA lightning tactical came into the mix!!!!!!!!!

HELP ME FOLKS!!!!!!!!!

If i go with the tactical i could up-grade the scope.... thinking about buying new, want to buy the right gun so i can look after it and hang onto it.

Would be used mainly for field work......... 177. or .22????? :hmm:

Talk about a can of fecking worms.............

WICH WOULD YOU GO FOR... ?????????

:signthankspin:

Hi Bush Rummager, the trouble with posts like this is,you can get lots of opinions of what folks would have or think is best. You can end up more undecided than ever!! So, for what it's worth,my opinion. It's the BSA every time for me. Every time you cock it and load it, it will fire and produce about the same power as the previous shot. No chance of leaking air reservoirs or faffing with "buddy bottles"etc. but each to his own eh?

AS it's mostly field work I would opt for the .22 for the knockdown power.

i borrowed a friends prosport for a while what a nice gun smooth as you like but my money would still be on the evo then i do like theobens and its .177 for me im affraid used a .22 for years got one .177 and would never go back just my thoughts though each to their own good luck with the choice :gunsmilie:

Depends what you're hunting.

the .177 is more forgiving as it has a flatter trajectory. Unless very close up the .177 will despatch the quarry every bit as well as .22 (overpenetration in .177) I used to shoot .22 and can't beleive the difference in the margin for error (on targets of course).

.22 probably better on rats over shorter distances. The Prosport is probably the best out of the box, but heavy for the field. I've only picked up (never shot) the Tactical up & it felt nice at the shoulder.

You also mention the Evo - the only gasram - some like them, some don't. I shot one & liked it a lot. I have heard of problems with leaks in later models though.

So there you go mate....no help at all :D:wallbash:

If you can, try them all first & see what suits

Has to be the Pro Sport for me, heavy yes, but what piece of kit. Mine is .177 and kills everything a .22 does, I use both, no particular reason for this, that's just the way I bought them.

I have also had a Lightning XL in .177, these are a very nice light rifle, very usable and you wouldn't notice you'd been carrying this for the whole day.

My advice would be to try them both if you can and make your own mind up :drink:

Cheers folks. some good advise there......

Paid the local gunshop a visit today, not a huge selection in, handled the prosport.. and was surprised by its weight, its a fair old lump! Also had two lightnings in.... the Tactical and a 'standard'.

Aparrantly the standard ( was told it wasnt an xl ) has recently been revamped with some chequring on the stock and an up graded scope! The chap told me B.S.A went through some financial difficulties six months back and this was their attempt at getting things back on track. Must admit the Ligthning did feel nice.........

Price wise the xl ( without scope) was 10 quid more than the 'revamp' standard including scope !!!

Comments welcome...

I've got a Lightning XL tac .22 and also a TX200 HC .22. They are very different beasts.

The Lightning is very light , maneuverable and feels great in the shoulder. Great value and a good honest accurate and basic gun. Great value for money. It does however kick like a mule when compared to the TX200.

The TX200 is a lot heavier but is an altogether different class when it comes to build quality. As it's so much heavier, it it far more stable and soaks up what little recoil there is. A very nice piece of engineering and far easier to shoot well.

I could go on for hours but in short...

If you're going to be carrying it all day the lightweight lightning is a good bet (A good bit cheaper than the TX200 as well). If you've got the strength and/or you're not going to be carrying it all day then the TX200 wins hands down.

My favorite is the TX200 and therefore it's also my recommendation...
