TOMO 27,277
I tried a heat tube like that and it was rubbish compared to the heat lamp... if you go for a heat lamp...go for the bigger more professional looking ones ...also get a ceramic bulb not a red bulb...them red bulbs seemed to blow after a few month 1 Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Yep heat lamp all the way. Put a hook in the ceiling attach a chain to the lamp and you can raise and lower it as the weather gets colder or warmer. All I’ve used for donkeys years. 1 Quote Link to post

Moocher71 4,050
Only time I used one was when we had a litter of pups but other than that I just put some straw in kennel and it keeps them warm anufe , If your getting a ceramic make sure you put a lamp guard on it and I'd advise a dimmer to raise lower temp as they get really hot ,they eat the electric as well but better than a red bulb Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,164
I wired mine through a room thermostat.. that way it clicks on and off throughout the night. 1 Quote Link to post
terryd 8,731
Well son in law top fella picked this up at boot sale for fiver. Its a 250 bulb though and christ throws some heat. Due to the size of bed area only five foot high it is too much. So I have ordered a 100 ceramic and will try that. They cheap enough. Will get that plastic pipe away from the cowl too. For some reason I just thought they were normal light bulbs only bigger. Guess the clue is in the name Need to make sure it's safe more than any thing from point of view of heat and the leccy cable Quote Link to post
whitefeet4190 1,729
Heat tubes are the way forward, mine have one in each bed and is warmer in their beds than the house some nights but leave them on from about 4pm until 7 am next morning an costs 50p to run all 3 of them, I put a thermometer in was it was -4 and was still reading 16 degrees in beds with 2 foot of waxed shredded paper 1 Quote Link to post
