Tubed cattys

I've never shot a tubed catty, what's the score. Is it still aim with a reference/anchor point like with flat bands ? I see on facebook there is a lot of gypsy metal srod tubed cattys fixed with leather tabs to the frame and they seem to be shooting a fair bit of gear with them. So what's everyone's thoughts on them versus flatbands, in aiming and shooting ect. Any pics of frames and tubes you shooting would be appreciated. Cheers

I sometimes shoot single tubes mainly 3060 and 4070 with 10mm lead / hex nuts / 11mm steel. I either snare wrap and tuck them straight to the frame or use tabs. Personally I find them more accurate with tabs.

pros - great for big ammo or found objects, very quiet, last bloody ages

cons - heavy pull weight for speeds compared to flats, i tend to get more fliers with tubes than flats.

Like anything practice helps consistency. I keep the same anchor point and gangster hold as i do with flats.

I also shoot best with a 100mm outer so I don't bother with the classic tool hook style gypsy frames as they are usually very narrow around 66-80mm wide.

I dont shoot as much as i did so prefer tubes as flats although bieng faster and better allround the tube just lasts longer. I find best way is a good bit of leather and wrap and tuck the leather to the frame then tie your tube onto the leather. My mate also makes good paracord tabbed catties makes thwm how you want i get on well with the smaller frames personally. Cheap latex or hosepipe elastic fir 14mm works well

Always shot tubes as a kid tried flat band couldnt get on with it and tubed so much better for heavier ammo and like said in a previous comment last longer alot lot longer I've had the same elastic sometimes for a year 6 months when I used to shoot more regularly

I have to agree as all my other frames have a wider fork gap, so tried the little gypsy tube catty and struggled a bit

I just cross drill the fork and make a loop, you can vary the loop size to suite your ammo and style, find it more accurate than tabs as you just look along the tube to aim at, orange dub dub is a bit big to loop so I tab that with para cord and just push tube over the not

Just to add something else I learned this weekend - I was going camping and didn't have much ammo but thought id try out a big oldschool pouch so I could scavenge pebbles at the site if I ran out of steels mooching / plinking.

First time using a big pouch with big tubes and it was really fun and still fairly accurate at medium distance with rounded pebbles and just as accurate as usual with my steels.

The set of tubes I have on my catty have probably lasted around 1000 shots and have outlasted 2 pouches.

They absolutely flatten pheasants at close range, I shot that one running along the road as I was still moving, they are also pretty useful for shooting into dreys, usually get the squirrels moving if there home

Them 12mm leads look like cannon balls.
