Show Me Your Hutch/Court

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am just in the throws of getting a Ferret for myself and my son. We are looking into Hutches and the like. The missus has said I can have a bit of garden if I cut some tree's back, it gives me 6ft wide by about 2 -3 foot deep to play with. I cant build to save my life and therefore need to buy one.

I have seen a few but not really sure what's suitable. I also looked at some nice one's at a farm shop today.

I will have 1 Ferret in it and possibly upto but no greater than 3 in the future.

I have seen some double hutches with floors that are 48" wide and come of legs for about £80. The height is also important as I have a bad back so do not like bending over :)

What have you got? Any pics to spare?

Cheers all

I'll put a few pics up of accomodation Ive had in the last year or so. The one your thinking of getting is ok in fact Im sure its the same as one Ive had before. If you decide to get that one then you'll have to put a sort of lip right across the front to stop the wood shavings falling out constantly. I built a court onto that hutch and then got covers for them both which worked out well - then my other half started complaining about all thye wood shavings all over the garden :censored: every time I cleaned it out so I decided to get the one you saw in the pet shop and placed it on a concrete bottom with 1cm feet on each corner so I could hose it out - Great no more wood shavings all over but the bedroom area is huge! I altered it by adding another shelf the top one for their bedding and the bottom for the feeding area. Every day my ferrets are put into the garage where I have made a tunnel system for them and I go in and spend as much time as possible with them but this brought new problems  in that they can climb on just about anything and would often get to the dog food on the shelf and tip it all over the floor and just generally wreck the whole garage :icon_eek: . So Ive finally decided on a hutch/ court which is being built for me over the next week or so it measures 8 foot long by 3 foot wide and high enough to stand up in. There's going to be a sleeping area at one end which is going to be strong enough for me to sit on and Im going to add loads of tunnels and play things for them - when its here and up and running I'll put some pics up. This should solve all of the problems I seem to have had in the last year, its going to mean there's plenty of room for them to get exercise every day, its going to be easy to clean out as there's no floor in and its going on concrete so I can hose it out daily and it means I can go in with them so they get handled enough. I do hope this helps. Anyhow, here's the pictures.

Its between that one Stubby and the 52" version of this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dep...&pf_id=6935 the benefit being its all floored and this one is cheaper. thoughts?

although the hutch type has a wooden floor, I just look at the overall space, the hutch with a ramp to bottom, the area from sleeping section aint that much with the ramp there, so the ferts would end up not really using that area, the larger hutch looks great, in they have their sleeping area, which as already stated could have an extra shelf placed in, and then food is given inside, plus the ammount of outside space is great

at the end of day, it depends what money you have to spare, but be warned, ferrets are very ADICTIVE, once you have one, you'll want more, and buying a hutch, that becomes to small in a few months time, means more money in the future
