RatSnatcher 0
I go trail riding on my Ktm around my local old byways, I'm always looking out for rabbits and places I can do some snaring in the future.......but I have never seen so many badger setts, they seem to be everywhere they are definatley on the increase round my way.......its getting to the point where I am thinking of getting a terrier locator just to take the dog out for a mooch I got caught out the other day whilst out for a walk with the dog and my dog went to ground and I was starting to worry as it was about 3:30pm getting dark and I was surrounded by facking holes......luckily after given me the run around I managed to get hold of the bitch before she fired back down another hole I wont get caught out again thats for sure ......but If I had got collard by someone or the old bill I could of ended up being nicked for something that was totally innocent Anyone else noticed a lot of badger setts being dug round your manor? and have Defra got any plans to keep the badger numbers under control? I've never stumbled on so many.......
doga 50
yes they are on the increase i know of a set in use in the town but as for defra if a cull was on the cards well then it would prob be gas or gun.
Malt 379
Loads round here as well mate. In some areas, they've displaced the rabbits & foxes.
Neal 1,873
When I moved to this area two years ago I remember one elderly gentleman pointing to a small copse in the middle of my permission and saying in a sage-like voice, "there used to be a badger sett in that copse years ago." Since then I've found three active setts, two of which were rabbit buries the previous year. Fortunately, for the rabbits and I, I think one of these has since been flooded out, as it is every winter, so that one may return to a bury. However, just to be on the safe side I've been giving it a wide berth this season as it's near a public footpath.

peterferret 0
we have just aquired some ferreting permission in a very large wood with a public footpath straight through the middle of it.i knew there were a few badgers in there but when having a mooch looking for rabbit setts came across badger setts along a steep bank .must have been over 100 holes spread over 500 yard bank.luckely all rabbit setts were on edge of wood
RatSnatcher 0
Like what has been mentioned they seem to be taking over a lot of rabbit burys here too..... Can rabbits carry Tuberculosis? if something isn't done I reckon TB in rabbits will be on the way if it isn't here already I'm going to take a video over the next few days of a byway that was teeming with bunnies a few years ago........and it seems to be over run with badger now ...........I will post it up soon as I have sorted it dont forget the tv program tomorrow....The man that eats badgers.......... here is the link BBC2
macberran 2
PF, I've the same, a neighbour with 5 acres off larch, bramble and scrub let me in too look for some missing stock over 250ft off brock sets, another thing is the shortage off my little gardenng buddy, the hedgehog 2 i've seen here in the last 1 1/2 yrs......I believe though that plans are afoot with DEFRA . Though personnally going back too the telly, I wouldn't eat a TB ridden scavenging porcine RTA for anything.
EOD 0
like what RatSnatcher mentioned above i got caught out while out for a walk as well. I was on the the in-laws land. yes i know 100% my fault I know. my two terriers chased a fox over 2 fields and end up going to ground and both taking separate sets. 30 min latter my older dog (jackRussel type) with Clear damage head. younger less experienced dog appears with bad damage to one of his legs unable to walk. Hopefully this will not put the Lakie off in the future far too young for this madness. This was last week dogs have been treated the lakie has started to recover walking on the wounded leg. JR hopefully recovers soon. They did not enter the same set. Lesson well learnt
