Meanwhile, back on the lettuce patrol tonight. Hartley and his mates were giving the newly planted lettuce a bashing. We had to show willing and go and thin them out a bit. Anyone with a choked shotgun can have it bored out for thirty pounds a barrel. I have had three AYAs done and they are just fine using super steel. I have also been buying rifle bullets and storing them in case the lead replacement is crap.?

Got a big bruiser tonight. I think it was sleeping in the field I was crossing. I only saw it as it legged it into a wood. I had been lamping as I went but out of nowhere it appeared. I was

Missed it! At 40yds!!! I let this smallish adult get to close on dusk. I was fiddling with the NV and ended up rushing the shot. Fortunately there was no light source involved. I then walked

Snap mate. Once I think someone's a prick they're a prick for good.

First night with c50 on hmr. Was back at the lambing field just before dark. The picture through the c50 at dusk is fantastic. No other NV I have looked through will pick up light like that without ir.

First fox came out just before dark and was chest shot about 75 yards.

Spent another 2 hours there played various different calls. But only had one more come in. I have to admit this one was pilot error and miss?

The scope is great after dark really coming into its own. But for me the most surprising was last light. Controls were easy to navigate and quick response. Great field of view so much wider than my little pard. A lot quick for picking up foxes before winding mag up.Only downside is weight for me IMG_20220603_231801.jpg.6805fff6021f50c77faeb67c0077cfc0.jpg

Squirrel shot at 10yds.

Shot at 150yds with a good cross wind. Shot two finished the deal at 140yds. It seems shot 1 turned and exited the liver. I  think it only deflated one lung.

Shot 2 was to the neck.

HMR for what it actually is is brilliant. I shot 35 crows yesterday, 10 of them with the HMR. On this current Hornady ammo zero splits or squibs. 20220527_223506.jpg.0ddc3f37e23852bff3aef913759f2375.jpg

Out with my eldest last night with cz457. 6 bunny's grassed, plenty more seen. Also spotted 3 hares, no interest in shooting, but we saw how close we could get - very close which she really loved, just watching them. ?

Probably would have done better if her silly old dad hadn't slipped with knife! ?

Yesterday evening saw the 2nd outing for the HMR. A lot of cover so concentrated where the sheep were as a bit more grazed off.

Started off with a woody at back of farm before heading off in search of bunnies. Not as many about as usual but it was very windy so that didnt help.

Plodding on I came across a black rabbit which was added to the growing bag. I was starting to enjoy using the rifle and getting used to it as I never really use it.

Crossing a field of barley I noticed a rat out feeding on some old grain but off re ran to a huge hole in the middle of the field joined by his mate.

Not a bad session and enjoyed using the little gun ...cant wait til next time when some silage should be cut ?
